What our customers say about their holidays

    • Adam - Verified booking

I firstly have to say that for the £300 for the three of us that stayed was good value.

..secondly if I had turned up in and or around the peak season paying upwards £700++ I would be severely disappointed, In general terms the holding looks very tired and slightly dated/needs a paint and done neatly as in various areas it is plane and visible to see, missed paint and general looks of a rush job. The plastering looks strange and only half skimmed type look/when pulling the cord for the extractor fan in the bathroom it almost pulls the casing and or fan off the ceiling/again the painting lets this area down/when the wind is blowing reasonably hard you cannot sleep as it's too noisy. The kitchen my friends told me [they arrived on the Sunday and me on the Monday] they had to basically clean the kitchen and especially the cooker area and it. there was food bits in and around the area, the fridge is dated and a little rusty/the frying pan fell apart when my friend was using it, there was another so used that...cutlery old and needs replacing a long with general food prep tools [knives were blunt etc for something decent and maybe a good chopping board]. Not really enough choice in glassware etc but it was enough. I would in the future if funds permitted get a slightly bigger TV for the lounge as it is a little bit too small nut adequate... I could not fault the layout of the grounds and very neat and tidy and the view was amazing...there is no facility for being eco friendly and recycling etc with bins...might be a thought for the future. The worst thing for me personally is that it stated it came with wifi...My friends cell phone coverage with their provider was excellent, unfortunately for me I had zero signal. They didn't need the wifi but for me there was almost zero wifi then whole entire time, I initially put it down to the weather but there was times with no wind and no rain and still nothing, may I advise a simple fix would be to put a repeater in the holding itself then it boosts the signal from their farm house [I am presuming that is the originating router for the wifi it's self. i would generally ask for some of the money back but as I said in the beginning for this time of year £100 each for a week is OK value but the general up-keep/cleaning and updating would need to happen if I was to come back in high season. If I'd turned up in summer I would be demanding a refund and leaving as for that amount of money it would definitely not pay a high price for. We saw your cleaners turn up next door to clean after some guests had left...one was in the car on her phone and the man was inside and the amount of time spent in there, I'm sorry but it wouldn't be enough time to do a thorough clean...I work in the ambulance service in London now but 15 years ago I worked in the private yachting and hotel business as a purser and butler, so I do know what a basic cottage should look to new guests coming in and at the same time not expecting what I used to perform but the basic's were not met as per advert sorry. But I want to highlight for this time of year good value and the grounds to the property immaculate but for high season I think a better standard could be achieved for little effort

We really enjoyed our week in Willow Lodge (number 10) on the Retallack resort, the property was very well appointed, immaculately presented, comfortable with two 'living room' areas and had everything we needed.

The only thing missing was oven gloves (but given COVID restrictions this was probably by design), honestly - that was about the only thing we missed! The location of the lodge was great, tucked away on the edge of the resort gave a good level of privacy. There were only 3 of us staying in the property plus our dog which meant loads of room, I think 8 could stay very comfortably, 10 would be fine, 12 might be a squeeze but very do-able. We did need to contact the property owner over a very minor issue to do with using the facilities at Retallack - they we back to us within a couple of hours and made the issue 'go away', so service and communication was also excellent. The property is ideal for the North Coast of Cornwall, Padstow or Wadebridge is 10 mins in the car, Newquay is 20/25 mins away. There is a small Tesco in Padstow, Tesco superstore in Wadebridge and large Morrisons in Newquay - so the area is well catered for if you want to self cater rather than eat out every evening. Port Issac is worth a mooch not much there however it is very petty - but be warned, it's busy! Perranporth is a stunning beach which goes on for miles, great of you've got a dog and lots of lovely little cafe's to grab a coffee and cake. Tintagel is a very pretty little area with a lovely cliff walk and lots of places to eat, once again it was busy but easy parking and no queues for food etc. If you don't mind an our in teh car then head towards the South Coast, Mullion Harbor is beautify with a lovely little tea room, Gunwollow Church cove is worth a visit, Lizard Point is also very nice with a great cliff walk from Lizard Point to Kynance Cove then a walk back through farmland to the Lizard car park. In summary an excellent property, appointed with everything you could need for a holiday and ideally placed for exploring Cornwall - would happily recommend it and would visit again.

      1. The Lodge is well located taking into consideration the closeness of lodges on the site and quiet after construction has finished for the day 2.

WiFi was the biggest issue - not having it directly connected to the Lodge and having to rely on the resort WiFi - you need to make this clear in the advert as families with children will face the same grief that I did on the first night and a large bill for data as well 3. The first night there we had water coming through one of the light fittings in the bunk bed room, clearly not the first time it had happened. Gene came out and resolved the issue, with the promise that a plumber would come on the Monday - we never saw the plumber. Room was damp and we ended up buying one of those container for damp conditions, ended up full of water 4. The original listing showed TV is a couple of the bedrooms and your current listing says that there is a TV in the twinned bedded room - there were no TV's 5. Some of the simple things like hooks on the back of doors to hang damp towels 6. The single room upstairs needs more than a bedside table and thought needs to be given as to whether it is actually suitable as a bedroom. 7. The upstairs balcony, which did some great views, had a birds nest with the resulting mess all over the balcony 8. The decking downstairs is rotting and my son chair leg went through it 9. There should have been some warning given about the construction traffic at the back of the lodge - it starts at 7am. It covered the cars with dust and on the last night there we had no water as they cut through the main pipe. Was resolved after a couple of hours

We had a fantastic stay at Willow Lodge.

It’s beautifully laid out and very well equipped. We liked that it was on a quiet corner plot of the resort and it suited our party of 2 adults, 3 kids & 2 dogs perfectly. We didn't bother with the resort facilities although it was handy to have the shop on site ( and we appreciated the food welcome gifts left for us ). We used it as a base to explore padstow and all the surrounding areas, including a visit to the Eden project that we loved. There are some incredible beaches locally that we found out about in the information pack that the owners Jamie & Amanda had thoughtfully put together. We’d thoroughly recommend it to any families looking for a comfortable base to explore the area from. We hope to return next year when we understand the lodge will also have a hot tub - the cherry on the cake!

The accommodation was lovely however there were a few areas that need attention.. the balcony upstairs felt wobbly if you lent on it and as such we had to keep our youngest child off of the balcony as we were worried about its stability. Also, the balcony and decked areas were covered in pollen / fluff from flowers which we cleaned ourselves. There was dirty towels left in the utility room. Some areas of the accommodation needing repair, cracked shower head holder, missing know on oven, scuffed woodwork on the cupboards in the kitchen . It was a fabulous property though in a great location for our family. We hope to return
