This was our first family glamping Holiday and although it was only for two nights but it truly was a wonderful experience, especially for the kids.
The hosts, Nigel and Emma in particular, were both wonderful. Since this was our first such Holiday with kids, Nigel was very helpful over the phone to answer our queries prior to our trip and gave all the information that we required. Emma, once we reached was there to greet us and took us to our safari tent and explained what all we needed to do and where everything was. The toilet in the tent we were booked in was broken so we were moved into another safari tent and it was very clean, including the shower and toilet and everything was neatly laid out in the tent. Emma had also left us lovely fresh apple welcome drink and homemade lemon drizzle cake which was just scrumptious! Following morning we were shown around the farm, including milking of the cows and meeting the lovely grand parents who also help out on the farm too. This is a family run farm (three generation old), which is well looked after with all the family members helping out on the farm. In the tents there is no electricity, however, there is provision for hot water for both, shower and sink, via gas cylinder and solar panels. The tents do not have any fridge but a cooler box is provided and ice packs could be borrowed for free from their quaint little pantry where the guests can use the farmâs fridge & freezer to store any personal food items. In the pantry there is facility to charge all your gadgets and phones. On the all it was a great glamping experience and for us since this was our first time, 2 nights and 3 days, was just about good⦠however, the kids wanted to stay for one more day! Our stay at Orchard Retreat was simply perfect, The owners were incredibly accommodating from the moment we arrived, we were given a lengthy and detailed tour accompanied with some brilliant recommendations, we felt so at ease right away.
The cabin itself had everything you could need for a cosy getaway, the interior is so well done and everything was of a very high quality. The hot tub was the Piece De Resistance, it was such an easy setup and the fact it maintained a constant temperature meant we could get in whenever we liked, the speakers made it even more wonderful once you were sat inside, we used the hot tub 2 or 3 times a day when we were there. The views out over the fields and the surrounding trees made the perfect backdrop to sit and gaze out into. Every morning we were able to sit and watch the Large birds flying around and one morning we even saw the farmer herding the sheep. The fire pit was so good to have on the chilly mornings and evenings, the firelighters provided worked a treat and our firewood was replenished when we asked. The hosts answered our calls and questions whenever we had anything we needed to know and were incredibly friendly during our entire stay. Their 4 legged friends were also a delight. In terms of places to go and things to do, you certainly won't run out, the local farm shop is juts a 10 minute drive and the produce in there was to die for! We went for a lovely long walk on our last day and visited the 13th century church on the recommendations of our host. It was a brilliant and picturesque walk with so many good photo opportunities. We really couldn't have asked for a better stay and will most certainly be visiting again!

We had a really wonderful stay at this beautifully restored wagon.
It was definitely a romantic and memorable experience. So quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of life. A great place to unwind. The owners Nicki and Ben have thought of everything. It was quite windy one night and the wagon hardly moved it is tied down so well. We saw a family of deer including a stunning stag in the field. Also a white owl sitting on one of the posts. I loved laying on the bed with the windows open watching the birds in the hedge. We spent a night round the fire pit. The sky was littered with stars having no light pollution there. We slept so well here. They had left us a welcome bottle of wine from their own vine yard which was superb. The wagon is well situated with Ottery St Mary, Sidmouth, Branscombe, Beer and the Beer caves all not far. There is a wonderful ARK pottery just down the road. Iâm so glad we went there. Some wonderful pieces of pottery for sale at quite reasonable prices. I would definitely love to come back and stay here again. NOTE: I would just like to say if youâre not a fan of really tight long narrow roads. Avoid Fire Beacon Lane. We drove down it on our first day. After that we always went the Sidmouth Road way which is much better.

We chatted with Samantha the lovely host on arrival and departure so this wonât come as a surprise.
We absolutely loved this place. The perfect get away. Sam has thought of everything from underfloor heating, full sized oven and fridge, smart tv, Bluetooth your music to the hot tub. Bath robes for getting in & out of the hot tub. So cost with amazing views along with a fenced in garden, the orchard garden, and huge field all for our sole use giving us privacy as well peace of mind for the dogs to run around safely without fear of running off and getting lost. We mentioned how nice it would be to have sun lounge or reclining chairs in the immediate garden to enjoy the views in the sunny afternoons / evenings. We have dogs and a crate so we needed to dismantle the table and chairs & stow them under the bed which was fine but we thought perhaps a bistro set could be placed in the summer house as an option. Oh one thing I forgot to mention to Sam directly was a mini microwave would have been handy however it wasnât a major thing as itâs really also quite nice getting back to basics. We will be returning, we stayed 4 nights and could have stayed longer. Just perfect.

This was an incredible stay.
I was previously in the travel industry for 11 years and this by far is the best "glamping" experience that I have had. Just enough off the grid so that you can enjoy the quiet and complete privacy, but at least cellphone reception, if you want it. I spent a week here with my dog for some R&R and we were both very comfortable. Everything you could need was there and the hosts Ben & Nicki were lovely and I even bought some of their lovely Solaris wine. You can see that there is great attention to detail and I am still impressed with what they have created here. Great bed, enough space to unwind and cook and it is also lovely for dogs. Great location as you can get to the ocean (various options) by car in a short drive, and lovely farm shops (also various options) to buy some treats/snacks/meat/eggs etc., within walking distance and there was also a restaurant, lovely hikes and more shops in the village (about 5 min drive).
