What our customers say about their holidays

We have just returned from a 4-night stay at Siesta Cottage in Eype.

Our stay was satisfactory, but some issues spoilt the holiday for us meaning we wouldn't choose to book Siesta Chalet again. The chalet is around 1 mile off the A35, after which are very narrow and steep roads to Eype, if you meet any oncoming traffic then someone will have to reverse to get through! The grass leading to the chalet is on a very steep gradient, and there is car parking space for 1 car outside. Apart from a small local shop and a small SPAR newsagent which have limited opening hours, the nearest supermarkets are in Bridport (2 miles). You do feel quite disconnected from reality due to this, which could be seen as a positive or negative! Pros: - The views from the chalet are fantastic and exactly as advertised in the photos. It was lovely to wake up and step out to the patio to such gorgeous views of the coastline. - The chalet was generally well equipt. - We loved the 2-minute walk down to the beach, and 1 mile walk across to West Bay along the South West Coast Path. We also had a lovely meal at "The George" pub in West Bay. Cons: - When we arrived at the property after 16:15, we walked in to find the chalet had not been cleaned from the previous occupants, who had left the chalet in an absolute state. We contacted the owner who was very apologetic and arranged for it to be cleaned ASAP, but this was extremely disappointing for us after a such a long journey and it spoilt the start of our stay. - The toilet flush broke on several occasions meaning the water wouldn't stop running, and we had to keep making temporary fixes as suggested from the owner to stop it. - The furniture is dated and could use with a refresh. The wicker sofa is not particularly comfortable to stretch out on. - The bath is very small so it was difficult to stretch out and relax. The shower head had a crack in it which looked like it would snap if adjusted up or down. - The lounge TV (which runs on Fire TV) is very slow and often gave up attempting to use any of the streaming features. This may be due to the WiFi which is reliant on Mobile Broadband. - The key safe is very old and grotty, we had trouble opening and closing it.

Really nice, and spacious holiday accommodation, right next to the sea, as the name suggests.

Access by a typically narrow Dorset lane, so be prepared to find passing places etc.! Well equipped generally, with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave etc. Some more drinking glasses would be useful, as all that is provided are pint beer glasses, wine glasses and champagne flutes - a set of tumblers would really help. Comfortable beds, and plenty of storage space, especially in the back bedroom. The cottage is very warm, with thick quilts - it was actually too warm when we went, during a hot spell!! There were a few issues, mainly due to inadequate cleaning. The fridge was so badly frozen that the ice box was unusable - the ice was so badly built up that the icebox door wouldn't close, and nothing could be put inside. I had to defrost the fridge to use it. Another problem was the shower. The first evening shower nearly flooded the room, as the drain was blocked, and I had to remove and clean the hair trap - Nothing says 'happy holidays' like cleaning strangers hair out of a shower!! The kettle was so badly scaled up that every drink resulted in limescale in the mugs - so I had to clean that out too! One of the serving ladles had chunks of dried food on it - not hidden in a drawer, but in the holder on the worktop. How was that not spotted? Fluffy dust build up around the bedside cabinets, a previous guest's belt left in a wardrobe . . . . . It's a shame about these niggles, because the cottage is lovely, but cleaning and checking between guests really needs addressing, especially given the 6 hour window between departure and arrival.

Nice little place, the location is great and the views are lovely and as described.

Check in was easy and owner responded quickly to the question we had. Having the beach and costal walks at our doorstep was the selling point. Pub and mini market in walking distance were another plus. Sadly we couldn't use the outdoor seating area to enjoy the views due to the strong winds and rainy weather but that's in no one's control. The place was clean, tidy and bright and the kitchen was very well equipped. Perhaps the layout with kitchen table and seating area could be slightly better but was ok for us as we were only 3 people. Would also be nice to put your legs up after a long day walking, maybe something to think about. Board Games were provided too. Big disappointment were the twin beds, as mattresses were so uncomfortable, very hard and with springs poking through and had definitely seen better days, it was very difficult to get a good nights sleep. Something which could easily be rectified. Mattress on double bed is better and more comfortable, so we gave it to my 80 year old mum who came with us to sleep on. On the plus, linen and towels were clean, fresh and looked new. Late check in on arrival and early check out on the Sunday, plus cleaning before departure made it a bit stressful and less worth for money spend, especially then one only stays for a weekend. Overall however a lovely place, which we would certainly recommend and come back to, if mattress issue is addressed.

The accommodation is really home from home.

The utensils crockery and pans are the best we have ever had. The dog could be secure as the property has a slide across gate on the decking area. With an area for doggy morning and evening toilet trips. We had access to Netflix terrestrial and our amazon prime etc. Radio too. DVD and some games were available. I have reduced and limited mobility and this property was so easy for me to move around and function as easily as normal. The outside table on the decking means that you get a sea view whilst having your cuppa which we love. You are literally 10 minute walk from the beach at Eype and up the road is a wonderful pub. Loved it. So comfortable. Owners are incredibly friendly too. Best holiday for me by far.

High Bullen Lodge is just the perfect place to spend a quiet break.

Although it is up a short track there is very easy access onto the A35. The chalet itself is just lovely, being decorated in a seaside theme with bunting strung across the walls and an enclosed garden (down 4 steps) which is pebbly like being on the beach (no grass). Our elderly dog struggled with the steps up to the chalet and down into the garden but we manged. The only downside for us personally was that our old dog who suffers badly with arthritis kept slipping and falling on the laminated flooring. We were also kept awake by the click clack of his nails as he wandered around so a carpet or large rug would have helped.
