Browse our handpicked selection today and start planning your dream Scottish escape.

Why choose Ayrshire for your staycation?

From castles to sandy shores, Robert Burns, and Viking expeditions, there's plenty of heritage and gorgeous landscapes waiting to be discovered in Ayrshire.

You'll be treated to some of the most spectacular natural scenery in Scotland, with dramatic mountains, rolling hills, lush meadows, intriguing glens, pretty villages, and miles of sandy beaches.

Ayrshire has a haunting history, with majestic castles, impressive stately homes, stone circles, and a cannibal's cave. It's the supposed birthplace of Robert the Bruce and home to a fascinating military history, including a Viking invasion.

If you're an adventure seeker, then you'll love Ayrshire's wide range of exciting outdoor activities. Go on a treetop trail, try your hand at paddleboarding, bring your mountain bike and hit the cycle trails, go sailing in the sea, or explore long, winding rivers.

For literary fans, visit the birthplace of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns. Head to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Burns Cottage to see over 5,000 artefacts about the life and works of this renowned poet.

For even more history, a trip to the Scottish Maritime Museum is a must. Based in the former Linthouse shipyard building in Irvine, this museum is known as the Cathedral of Engineering. You can learn about Scotland's importance in shipbuilding and marine engineering. With lots of boats and interactive displays to discover, this museum is a brilliant place to spend an afternoon.

There are loads of amazing castles to discover in Ayrshire. Culzean Castle, created by Robert Adam, hugs a clifftop, and swims in history and expansive grounds. Other favourites include Dean Castle, Maybole Castle, Seagate Castle, Fairlie Castle, and Dundonald Castle. You'll need to stay a few extra days just to see them all!

If you're heading to Ayrshire on a family holiday, treat the little ones to a trip to Heads of Ayr Farm Park. You can meet many animals in the park, including horses, donkeys, peacocks, alpacas, pigs, llamas, and lots more. There's also an exotic animal section where you can hang out with camels, wallabies, monkeys, and prairie dogs to name a few!

While Ayrshire is beloved for its stunning countryside, the towns and pretty villages are worth exploring too. Ayr, Troon, Girvan, and Kilmarnock are beautiful towns full of sites to explore, and the sweet villages of Kirkoswald and Ballentree will have you “ooh-ing” and “ahh-ing” as you explore gorgeous high streets and hidden nooks and crannies.

The vibrant city of Glasgow to the north is easily accessible from Ayrshire and makes for a brilliant day trip. To experience some of the most breathtaking scenery Scotland offers, head south to see miles of coastline and the beautiful Isle of Arran.

With so much to see and do in this wonderful Scottish county, you'll only wish your Ayrshire weekend break or staycation could last longer!

What our customers say about their holidays

    • June - Verified booking

Weren't told that the swimming pool was unavailable until we got there.

We tried to fire up the hot tub and followed the instructions. We were told that it took 30 minutes to heat up, we checked after 30,45 and 1 hour but the water was stone cold. This basically meant sitting watching TV for 2 days which we could do at home, we decided to head home and the co owner agreed to refund us £200. We were advised that his wife would contact us to arrange this later that day, no one phoned, I called back the following day and spoke to her son who said he would get his mother to call us we are still waiting. We were contacted by Sykes who said the refund had been removed and we could have 2 nights free, given that the owner didn't have the courtesy to call us we rejected their offer. Sykes basically stated that there was nothing else they would do and when I requested their CEO email address again I didn't get the courtesy of a response. Wouldn't use them again and will ensure that none of my family and friends do either. Case of we have your money and don't care. Can I also point out that the swimming pool is still showing as available on Sykes site- False advertising.

We had a beautiful stay, it's so quiet and surrounded by stunning views.

The carriage has everything you could possibly need and is so cozy and barely needs heating. The hot tub is fairly simple to get going and stays nice and hot for hours. The hosts are lovely people and when they saw us would ask if everything is OK and if we needed anything. You have access to all the amenities of the caravan park and access to the pool. There's a field of cow right next to the carriage who are very friendly and like to come for a look especially when your sat outside. Again we loved it and will be back again.

We had an amazing stay at the greenacres carriage.

The lodge had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I particularly liked all of the little touches such as shampoo, milk, juice, plenty of towels etc. The location was beautiful with stunning views and daily visits from the cows. The hot tub was perfect! We also made good use of the facilities on site. We used the children’s play parks and the swimming pool which was clean with excellent changing facilities. Would highly recommended visiting this gem!

The lodge had everything we could possibly need!

Beautiful views, lots of privacy and excellent facilities. Thank you Vi for the best stay! We stayed over valentines and Vi went the extra mile to make sure our stay was special. We were always well stocked up with wood for the hot tub, plenty of towels/blankets, the little details with chocolates and Prosecco upon arrival was very thoughtful and very much appreciated. Would not hesitate to book again!
