"I booked this cottage as a last minute getaway break and so glad I did. It is a large family home estate with has been annexed and it is split over 3 floors and unlike what the brochure says, it sleeps 4 + 2 (x4 adults and x2 children) as I feel this is where it being massively undersold. When I say it has everything that you possibly need I mean just that. The kitchen had every utensil you could think of including washing up liquid, sponges, clothes, tea towels, as well as a fresh bottle of milk, butter, bottle of Prosecco, coffee, teabags, sugar and sweets for the children on arrival. The lounge contained TV with Sky and a range of board games for the children, a log burner which came with a free basket of logs to use and was a lovely touch on an evening when watching television with it burning away nicely. Upstairs contained x3 bedrooms, a Twin (one childrens bed either side of the room), both with their own TV/DVD player with Satellite channels, a Double, again with it's own TV/DVD player with Satellite channels and a Super King Size, once again with it's own TV/DVD player with Satellite channels. The bathroom was great size and came with some lovely free toiletries you would normally see in a hotel stay and supplied with lovely luxurious Christie towels and dressing gowns (although mine was a bit on the small side as I'm a bit on the tall side). The basement (as I call it), contained the utility room which had a freezer, tumble dryer, tennis rackets, balls, more logs for the log burner and access out to the garden. The garden contained the tennis court, garden furniture and hot tub and for me, this was what made the break. It was well maintained and were invited to use it from the moment we arrived and was such a pleasure to use it. In fact it was used everyday as it was lovely and warm.Housekeepers cottage is located approximately a 5 minute drive from Middleton on Tees village and here there is a Barclays Bank, Co-operative and one of the best fish and chip shops (a definate must) along with some other little shops and cafes etc.On arrival, the family welcomed us and showed us around and the kids were delighted to find they had children the same age as our own. They also owned three very cute daschund dogs but very rarely heard them to be honest.Everything was absolutely perfect, the amazing hospitality, the cleanliness of everything, to the location. A massive thank you to Elaine and her family and look forward to returning here very soon."

"Spent a week here in early September, with 3 adult kids (18 - 21 yrs). This property is simply BEAUTIFUL. It is adjacent to a huge mansion, where the owners live. However, the place is so big that you are not aware of this proximity. We do a LOT of traveling, and I can honestly say that the photos do not do it justice; it is even better than we imagined. The place is absolutely beautifully decorated; just so incredibly tasteful. (You must be able to climb stairs to stay here)It has an enormous amount of equipment, washer, dryer, BBQ equipment, wi-fi, a TV in each bedroom (DVD slots with kids videos in the kids' bedroom) tennis court with rackets etc, and a kitchen with EVERY possible gadget you could want (coffee bean grinder, coffee maker, microwave, fridge, freezer, etc). Linens, towels very high quality, and beds super comfortable. Lovely touch with slippers and bathrobe too.We were greeted by a "welcome pack" including wine, bread, fruit and candy. Essentials like coffee, tea, olive oil, butter, washing powder, dish washing liquid, toilet tissue etc were available to start you off, which was really handy. Lots of board games, and SKY movies. The host family were very friendly, and the all the hens and chickens in the garden provided fun excitement for all to watch. There is a lovely village (Middleton on Teesdale) just 5 min drive away, and a bigger town 15 min drive away. Beautiful countryside, and lots to see. We would definitely recommend this cottage."

"The property seems a little tired and in need of refurbishment. When we tried to play a DVD it didn't work and lost all the TV channels. Personally neither of us are concerned about TV but it would have been good to be able to use the DVD. It was a bit of a performance trying to get the cooker to work. Despite following instructions in the manual we could not get the washing machine to work at all. A hook on the back of the bathroom door would be useful, a more substantial grater would also be good as the one supplied bent at the slightest pressure. The dining table was too small, a Pembroke table would be better as it would give more space for eating and take up less space when not in use. We discovered on the first night that one of the bedside lamps had no bulb in it. However the bath was fine and the bed was comfortable. CD player extremely dusty although place mainly clean. We had to switch off the air fresheners as they were overpowering but the downside then was the smell of damp."

"From my first phone contact with the owners we felt really welcomed, and the cottage was just what we hoped. It's well appointed and has a really homelike feel, with books on the shelves, a wood burning stove, and pictures on the walls. There's also a lower bit of garden below the house that you can use in relative privacy. The cottage has a view over upper Weardale, with walks from the door and wonderful bird life and wild flowers all around. We used it as a base for exploring and would return to cosy evening meals and relaxation in the large, comfortable lounge. It's within easy driving distance of Hexham and Corbridge and beyond that the superb Roman sites, Hadrian's Wall and, of course, the North Pennines. All in all I would strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a base for a holiday in the NE, though obviously its position makes a car fairly essential. The owners take real trouble to make sure their guests are comfortable and well provided for."

"Lovely cottage with plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 children. Location is great although we visited the weekend prior to the terrible Cumbrian floods and the weather was pretty awful then. Cottage is well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils and quality bedding. There is even a portable BBQ, out door seats and ball games which due to the weather we weren't able to try out. There are plenty of board games and books to keep you entertained too. The cottage is about a mile uphill from the village of Middleton-In-Teesdale again if the weather had been better it would be a lovely walk to and from the pub.My only real criticism is there is no Wi-Fi at the property and we had no mobile reception on 4 different mobile networks. However if you are looking to get away from emails, work or your phone in general this is a lovely peaceful retreat."
