What our customers say about their holidays

Sykes Staff have been nothing but friendly and accommodating, they were not to fault for our unsatisfactory stay.

The property however had dust webs left in corners (despite cleaners) and offered no QR code/Covid guidelines, no antibacterial hand wash or sanitiser (good job we took our own). We were greeted by a wasps nest by the front door obviously using the property’s roof. The door with its large double glass windows offered no privacy from passers by using the shared drive and communal laundry room given the fact the shower and toilet were right behind it which resulted in us having to hang a towel over the door. The pictures of the garden were misleading. It clearly shows a grass area which had been cordoned off and belonged to another property which only left the stoned area you see in the pictures which would have been fantastic if it weren’t for the fact they are not friendly to the paws of our fury friends which meant our pet friendly get away wasn’t in fact so pet friendly at all and his off lead play time went out the window. The directions to the property are not clear, even using ‘what four words’ we had difficulty. In the end we were forced to contact Sykes which then had to contact the owners who added another couple of steps to the directions. Frankly if it weren’t for the fact we had to rely on a family member for travel and our signal was so spotty we never would have stayed.

We've had a wonderful time at the Summer field farm cottage with the surrounding area comfortable and relaxing, ideal retreat to those seeking rejuvenate from busy lifestyle.

However, the simple touches like resources and better communication could be better. We were asked by the guest book to strip the bedding on our departure for example and put it in the laundry basket, yet we couldn't find any, however we have looked. There weren't enough supplies of toilet tissues either and ended up buying our own. The same applied to kitchen towels or wet towels where there were only few left. We didn't mind to put the cottage as we found it but would appreciate on our holiday to supply with resources to do the job at least. Also, being it a farm it advertised in the guest book, guests could purchase fresh eggs, but was told there weren't any due to owner having family members visitors and that she'll let me know the next day. I didn't receive any notification. Small touches like that would make a big difference to the overall satisfaction.

Correspondence prior to our stay was excellent.

On the day of our arrival, Judith met us at the property with a warm and welcoming smile. She was a wonderful host, who paid attention to all the details to ensure we had the ultimate break. Additional touches included a library of informative books and tourist leaflets, dvds and board games. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need for a self catering holiday A++ beyond the standard equipped kitchen as she had also provided cling film/foil and sandwich bags. The welcome basket included a pint of milk, a bottle of wine and a large share bag of Yorkshire ready salted crisps. The rooms were spacious for a couple with comfortable beds, crisp linen, decorative cushions and an additional blankets. Overall, The Burrows was cosy and quiet, and led to a really relaxing and peaceful stay. Thank you Judith, we loved it!

We stayed at Summerfield Farm cottage last autumn and came straight back this year, which says straight away that we like it!

The cottage is clean, the rooms are spacious and uncluttered, the ambiance is pleasant and homely. The kitchen has a comfortable amount of workspace and plenty of cupboard room. Although the cottage is next to the owners' home, the windows all face away over the fields/down the drive, and the cottage garden is on the side away from the owners' windows and door, so one has a feeling of privacy and quiet. The garden has a table, chairs and a parasol for sitting out in fine weather. The views from the bedrooms, by the way, are delightful. Just one thing to be aware of is that the stairs are steep. It won't be a problem for most adults, and I think that the owners provide a safety gate for toddlers, but something to consider if someone is elderly or frail?

Lovely cottage in a very quiet peaceful setting.

Didn’t hear one firework, which we came away to avoid. The cottage had everything we needed, kitchen well equipped with a good hob and oven. Reasonable freezer compartment above fridge. Comfy beds with nice quality linens. Garden for dog, watch out for the sheep and chickens that are about, we found them very amusing and our dog wasn’t bothered by them. Great location for access to market towns (Helmsley was five minutes by car and had great shops) and to the Moors. There is certainly plenty to do. We did many morning walks and the area is very dog friendly, in fact, if you don’t like dogs you’re stuck as we saw so many on the Cleveland way and in the towns. Thank you for a great stay and the fresh, free range eggs. We will certainly return.
