What our customers say about their holidays

    • Maureen - Verified booking

The reason why we chose this cottage was to take the dog while our kitchen was being fitted.

I was told there was a private garden for our use. The garden was locked and gated in the cottage it said not in use for us . My husband couldn’t leave the dog with myself and friend so he had to keep her at home and stay with her so returned home on Thursday so I could give him a break. Also there was no fire exit where the bedrooms were so if a fire had started in the front we’d have no escape. Also toaster microwave and kettle were in a cupboard which to us was a fire hazard the toaster and microwave were right at the bottom so were difficult to use. Also there were 2 locked doors where the bedrooms were which I presume were for next door but no note to say that. I did phone your office up before I booked re the garden and you were told by the owner yes there was a private garden for our use. I also phoned your office when we got back on Thursday pointing these things out. I would definitely not have booked this cottage. On the plus side it was clean tidy lovely bedding warm and cosy. I would appreciate your comments Regards Maureen Tweedhope

A lovely cottage in a really good location. Nearby Helmsley is a great little market town with lots of independent shops and cafes, and The Hayloft made a fabulous base from which to visit the incredible ruined medieval Abbeys in the area - Whitby, Rievaulx, Fountains and Byland. Pickering and Helmsley castles were a real treat too, and the medieval wall paintings in St Peter and St Paul's Church in Pickering were breathtaking. The area is properly dog friendly too - Daisy made lots of friends, and we really appreciated being able to take her into shops and cafes (special mention to the Little Ripon Bookshop who fetched her fresh water while we browsed!). The Hayloft's owners Tony and Elaine were super-friendly and incredibly helpful, even managing to arrange to fix a broken shower the same day whilst they themselves were away on holiday. A smashing week in a very special place - thank you.

Lovely location, pretty garden to sit in right next to the river.

Its accessed through the side gate, so dog owners, be aware that you arent able to just open the back door to let your dog out into the garden. Apartment was comfortable and warm. Bed was super comfy. Kitchenette was perfectly adequate for my needs as I was taking advantage of all the wonderful places to eat in helmsley and beyond. Lovely shower. Owners plan to install a garden hose so that any furry friends and hiking boots can be washed off before you enter the property, which will make such a difference

This is a wonderful place to stay. Spacious yet cosy, very clean and nicely decorated. Alisa is a fantastic host and provided plenty of information for walks and cycling. I would say though, if you want to nip to a pub you do have to drive so this accommodation is for keen walkers and cyclers and those that are happy to drive out, which we were. Beautiful location on a working farm with amazing views and it’s very own plum and apple tree!

Thanks for a really relaxing stay. We are familiar with the area but we tried out some of your recommendations. The Red Lion on the moors worth the visit. One of our favourite spots is lunch at the glider club. We also went to Thornton le dale to the visit the Mathewsons (Bangers and Cash). Great footpaths for the dog which is a must for us. Hope to return soon. Hoe to return soon. We bought and tried the honey. Loved it.
