    Lydney is home to just over 8,000 people but they’re well catered for with over 30 pubs, cafes and restaurants, and plenty of shops. Near the modern centre, you’ll find beautiful green spaces and a variety of historic monuments. At Lydney Station you'll find the Dean Forest Railway, one of the few remaining steam train experiences in the country. A memorable rail trip over just over four and a half miles spanning five stations, this journey is a wonderful way to explore the forest.

      A lovely cottage to relax in, but there were a few issues that needed to be addressed. The bottom shelf of the fridge door was cracked, so no heavy items could be placed on it., i.e pints of milk. Also the fridge /freezer required de-frosting (thick ice ran down the back of fridge, and freezer boxes were difficult to manage. We found someone sock inside the washing machine, and the cooker grill pan had not been cleaned. There were no fire lighters in the jar by the fire, as stated there would be some in their information pack about the cottage. The fire tools handles were loose, and required tightening. We did not meet the Hosts, and lastly there was no welcome pack for us, not even a pint of milk for a cup of tea on arrival. ( which other guests have mentioned they had wine/chocolates in the Guest Book) the hot tub was great.

      We enjoyed a lovely week in Brewery Lodge and were blessed with excellent weather.

      The apartment is quite compact with the kitchen, dining and lounge all in the same space, but this was as expected. The beds were comfortable and the main bedroom has the benefit of an en-suite toilet/sink. The apartment is directly attached to the pub and this did generate some noise, but nothing too much and not late at night during our week. The main noise comes from the road which seems to attract some traffic passing in a big hurry very early in the morning, which you can't miss if you have the windows open. Keep them shut and it is fine, the double glazing solves that issue. Sue and Ian are a lovely friendly couple and we enjoyed both Sunday lunch and one evening meal in the pub restaurant, and would recommend giving this a try.

      A gem! A dog-friendly cottage/lodge handily situated in the garden of the village pub & close to a number of attractions in the Forest of Dean and wider.

      The 2-bedroom accommodation is fitted with all amenities including a decent kitchen area, lounge & spacious wet-room. Note that the ground floor contains one bedroom & the wet-room whilst the lounge, kitchen and bedroom with en-suite are upstairs. The location & lodge were very comfortable and everything was very well-presented - there was even an arrival gift, most welcome. In these strange times it would be worth saying that everything possible was done to make the accommodation "Covid-safe", and that was appreciated. We would like to thank Sue & Ian for making us feel very welcome indeed and I would finish by recommending the local pub for its lovely homemade food and atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.

      Very clean property but in my mind let down by poor quality furnishings.

      Settees comfortable as were the beds. Microwave quite rusty, Hot water was never hot, had to boil kettle for washing up and water temp spoilt a lovely shower. Welcome wine, milk and chocolates appreciated. We ate at the pub and the Sunday Roast was excellent value, lovely deserts and large portions. Shame the outside of pub looks unkempt. Garden area needs a good tidying up. Owner did say the carpark was due to be updated. No local info provided or info for rubbish and where to put used bed linens and towels. Plenty walks in forest, well aware of boars churning up verges and fields. Rising sun served excellent food and the Fountain pub was good for a drink, we didn't eat there.

      What a fabulous place this is, set on the edge of the Forest of Dean.

      The Lodge has all that you could possibly need for a great holiday. It is self-contained and very comfortable. It is attached to the pub but you wouldn't know it. no noise, nothing. What you do get is great hospitality and great food from Sue and Ian if you choose to eat in there. It's a very friendly place. There are woods close by to walk or you can go to other parts of the Forest of Dean, there is so much to see and do there that we hardly ventured out of the forest during the week. So much great scenery and fabulous walks. All in all, this was a great holiday in a wonderful location. p.s. our dog Bonnie enjoyed it too
