What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jim - Verified booking

We don't usually submit reviews, however we felt that the description of this property oversold it and it was in need of some tender loving care.

The points we want to draw to the owner's attention are noted below: 1. Cleanliness - crockery, tea pot and cutlery needed to be washed prior to use. Previous guests appear to have merely rinsed these items and put them away rather than throughly wash them. The washing machine also dirty resulting in marks on light coloured clothing. Rubber door seal needed cleaning and perhaps too much washing powder was used in previous washes! Spiders webs with dust were found in the bedroom and bathroom. The radiator in the bedroom was full of hair and dust. 2. Shower- the thermostat could not be adjusted, paint splatters on the shower tray 3 Bedding - flannelette sheet and pillowcases on the bed, far too warm in the height of summer 4 Other internal issues - clock in kitchen not working, fridge freezer old, fridge door doesn't always close although there is a note on the fridge saying push to close, drawer in freezer had been broken and was glued back together rather than replaced, dificult to control temperature in fridge due to its age, either freezing or not cold enough. Fruit bowl on shelf broken and although kitchen well equiped we found a lot of chipped crockery. Kitchen stools too high to comfortably sit at the breakfast bar. 5. Back garden - weeds in back seating area. Recycling bins take up a lot of room and would benefit from being all together in a stacking device. 6. Parking- Its not a quiet street, its very narrow with cars parked on both sides and no turning space at the end. Parking was a challenge and other residents asked us to move our car from the door.

The location of the cottage is amazing. Just a few minutes walk to town and lovely walks along the canal and rivers. Also only relatively short drives to Pen Y Fan and other walking routes. It was very quiet which was good. Parking was an issue on one occasion when we came back in the afternoon and we had to pay and park on the car park but this is very close to the cottage. Shower is amazing, although the description does say 'ensuite WC and shower' but actually there is no ensuite WC only shower which is very unusual in that it is literally in the bedroom. But the shower looked very new and was really powerful. Some issues with dog hair throughout the property but this has been fed back to the owners. Overall I would definitely recommend as a base for exploring the Brecon Beacons.

Although not a problem for us, the narrow twisty stairs could be a problem for others and needs to be made more clear on the description.

The kitchen was very cold compared to the rest of the house - no heating unless we had the oven on for cooking dinner. Also very poor lighting in the kitchen in winter. The sofa was quite soft compared to what we are used to - not good for back support. It was lovely to have hot water for a shower, whatever time we got back - no waiting for it to heat up. The parking was limited. The location of the house was great - we never actually used our car for the whole week. Supermarkets, bus station etc all easily walkable. Plenty of places to eat out in town. Obviously, the surrounding countryside is wonderful and we did walks and cycle rides from the doorstep as well as using the bus to go a little further afield. We were blessed with good weather, which always helps!

We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage .

Ideal base to visit the lovely surroundings of the area .Very convenient location for walking into town .The house was very well equipped for cooking ,good quality pans and utensils, knives etc We like to do our own cooking and so often rental properties are so basic .The house was very cosy and peaceful,we slept really well ,comfy bed etc ,if it got abit chilly the heating was very quick and easy to boost up a bit …Good local info was available in the booklet Lovely walks by canal (smart by the canal basin just round the corner) Tried to book canal boat trip but was not available as he’d got private booking ) All in all a lovely stay …would recommend…thankyou

Unfortunately we had to leave the cottage on the Wednesday, due to inside stairs which are narrow and all different heights and widths.

The sofa was very low, it was difficult for me to get up from. I had a couple of falls, one on narrow landing, top of stairs and one in lounge getting up from settee. My husband had difficulty getting me off floor. Son helped. My son who lives 20 miles away from cottage and came to cottage to help. Abergavenny was not happy with how we were managing and booked us into a hotel from the Wed to the Sat when we were due to go home. It was very unfortunate, as the cottage was clean and pleasant. It was well decorated, everything we could need provided in the cottage. Perhaps I should have read more into it. Would be fine for younger persons or, the Very fit older person.

Penderyn Brecon Beacons Distillery / The Welsh Whisky Co Ltd

In the foothills of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales, Penderyn Distillery produces award-winning single malt whiskies and spirits. A visitor centre offers tours of the distillery and a tasting bar where you can try some of its products. Not suitable for children. Alternative route available for wheelchair users. Shop and bar.

    Tretower Castle & Court

This architectural wonder spans 900 years of history. Tretower is two wonders in one as just across the castle green lies an entire medieval court that became a byword for magnificence. You'll find the great hall set up just as if it were for a lavish feast in the 1460s. A recreated 15th century garden contains fragrant white roses that represent Sir Roger's passionate Yorkist sympathies. Mostly accessible for wheelchair users, dogs on leads welcome, gift shop, refreshments, picnic tables, toilets, child friendly.

    Pen y Fan

Pen y Fan is one of the most popular walks in Wales. When the weather is fine, the views are truly splendid, with mile upon mile of rolling hills. There are marked trails on the walk, so please stick to these and take care - some sections are steep and the drop at the top is sheer. Take a look at the 'Visit Wales' website for more information - it features the Pen y Fan walk among others.

    Henrhyd Waterfall

Henrhyd Waterfall, located in the scenic Brecon Beacons, is a must-visit for holidaymakers seeking natural beauty. Standing at 90ft tall, it's the tallest waterfall in South Wales. Explore the enchanting woodland trail and immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery. Address: Dol Henrhyd, Coelbren, Neath SA10 9PG
