"Perfect for large groups, well equipped with everything you need, comfortable, loads of space for everyone over the 4 levels, youngest at the top as the stairs are narrow but totally climbable and adventureous for kids, tv’s in all the rooms great for kids too and there is a bathroom and shower on the top floor so you don’t have to use the stairs in the night. We were two family groups including children and grandparents, and we never once felt crowded. The garden isn’t large but secure and big enough to bbq with a large outdoor seating area. You don’t need a large garden with all that beach on the doorstep anyway. Four walkable pubs of which a couple do takeaways and a hotel restaurant, Johns cafe and shop have everything you need. Welcoming from the start with the wine and scones, lots to do in the area or within short drives, a great place to stay and would recommend it totally."

"Beautiful location. Cottage had all we needed and the walled garden was just out of this world! So appreciated fresh vegetables on a daily basis. Staying early September, with no instructions on how to get the heaters in the property to work, the property was a little cold for my elderly parents. We did not seem to b3 able toget cold water out of the taps without running it for many minutes as I think the cold feed ran alongside the hot. This meant we had to put tap water in the fridge to get it to the required temperature.Lack of Internet was a real problem if you need to work and television reception was very poor.I would stay again tomorrow because the location was beautiful and a wonderful place to escape from the pressures of life in general. The vegetables in the walled garden were such an added bonus, any other problems in life just faded away!!"

"The Shoe Box was a comfortable and well equipped base. Garry the owner was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed eating out on the small decked area and found the local shop, the fish and chip shop (just a few doors away) and Memories restuarant all very convenient. As someone who enjoys walking I was pleased to be able to explore a different footpath each day from the doorstep, most walks ending up on the estuary looking over Instow, up to Bideford or on to the Northam Burrows leading to the lovely sanddunes and miles of sandy beach and shallow waters to Westwood Ho! Do try the delicous Hockings coffee ice cream from the van in Westward Ho!"

"We booked the Mews last minute, due to a late cancellation. There was a lovely welcome from Bob and Dill, his border collie. The cake made by Pauline and the milk in the fridge was a nice thoughtful touch! We wanted a chill out week with plenty of blustery walks by the sea and we weren't disappointed. The children (10 & 13) enjoyed feeding the animals in the morning with Bob and collecting the eggs from the chicken coop, we were even given a few to have for breakfast and they were delicious. So nice as well, to have the pool and jacuzzi after a walk in the rain! Altogether a great holiday, we have already booked for next year!"

"I can't recomend Captains House and the area enough. We had such a wonderful time, the house was immaculate, the view from the lounge is amazing. The kids loved it, the beach is just a 3 minute walk and for a May bank holiday with lovely weather it was not too busy. The local pub which is a few doors down does amazing food, then just further along is Johns Deli which does amazing local cheeses meats etc. I will definitely be recommending this place to family and friends. I must menion the lovely welcome we recieved which was homemade walnut and apricot scones, they were absolutley delicious. Thank you so much."
