Plan your dream retreat with our Northumberland log cabins

Northumberland is one of the most northern points of England, sitting on the border of Scotland. Encompassing a beautiful, unspoiled coastline and the untouched hills of Northumberland National Park, you'll never be short of things to do.

One of the big draws of Northumberland is the charming seaside towns, such as Seahouses and Craster, where you can enjoy miles of sandy beaches and quaint seaside attractions all while munching on fresh fish and chips. There are also plenty of historic sites nearby, such as Bamburgh Castle ruins, Alnwick Castle, and Hadrian's Wall.

To experience this majestic county in all its glory, stay in one of our beautiful Northumberland log cabins or lodges. With plenty of cute and quirky Northumberland self-catering cabins to choose between, from luxury yurts to traditional wooden chalets, you can bring your friends, family, or even your precious pooch as you get away from it all and have an exciting adventure.

Why choose a Northumberland weekend break or staycation?

Whether you're looking for a countryside break or coastal adventure, the magical landscape of Northumberland is the perfect destination.

From the rural greenery of the Northumberland National Park and the epic beaches lining the shores of the North Sea to the picturesque towns and villages and incredible ancient castles, this impressive county has something for everyone.

Northumberland is the least-populated county in England, making it the perfect escape from the daily grind. It's also home to some amazing wildlife, including puffins. Take a boat trip to the Farne Islands, an important bird sanctuary where around 290 species have been found, including Arctic terns, shags, eider ducks, guillemots, razorbills, and puffins.

The history of Northumberland spans from Roman, Celtic, Viking, and Anglo-Saxon, and there are plenty of historical sites and landmarks to see. One of our favourites has to be Hadrian's Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The wall dates back to 122 AD when it served as a defensive fortification for the Roman Empire. It spans over 70 miles between Bowness and Wallsend, and you can see forts and outposts about every five miles.

Another historical landmark to add to your itinerary is Bamburgh Castle. The castle towers over the sweet village of Bamburgh, 150 feet above the coastline. It's one of the largest inhabited castles in England and was the home to many kings including James I and Henry VI. Once inside, you can see an art gallery, an armoury, and several beautiful staterooms.

For more spectacular castles, head to the crumbling ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Nestled between the villages of Embleton and Craster, Dunstanburgh Castle was the focus of intense battles during the War of the Roses. The views surrounding the castle are simply breathtaking, and you can go inside the remains and explore the interior.

The pretty town of Alnwick is famous for its stunning castle, which was used as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. The fortress is massive and has a fascinating history that can be discovered through brilliant interactive tours. If you're a Harry Potter fan, make sure you book the broomstick training experience.

There is more to Alnwick than its ancient castle. The town is beautiful, with cobbled streets and great shops and restaurants. There is also the lovely Alnwick Garden to explore and the surrounding countryside with the River Aln running through it.

One of the main attractions of the county is the Northumberland National Park. Ideal for adventurers, nature lovers, and keen walkers, the park offers many outdoor activities, from hiking along Hadrian's Wall to stargazing. If you want to make the most of the stunning clear skies, join a stargazing event at the Cawfields and Walltown Dark Sky Discovery Site.

If you're after a breath of fresh sea air, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches in Northumberland. Some of our favourites include Embleton Bay and its massive expanses of sweeping golden sands, the secluded cove of Sugar Sands near Howick and Boulmer, and the family-friendly Beadnell Beach, which is a dream for sandcastle building and water sports.

We've only scratched the surface of things to do in this incredible county. To see it all for yourself, make sure you book one of our Northumberland accommodations and experience everything it has to offer.
