What our customers say about their holidays

    • Confirmed Guest - Verified booking

Excellent service from the start! Loads of info provided in the digital handbook. The Dukes is situated in the old malting building in central Alnwick. Fabulous apartment with a generous welcome hamper and White Company toiletries. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, great shower and fluffy white towels. Comfy bed and plenty of storage space and coat hangers. The lounge is spacious with a comfortable sofa and dining room table and chairs. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you may need for a self catering holiday including a dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is an allocated parking space adjacent to the building. This is the best by far apartment we have stayed in. Keith the owner rang us to ask if we needed anything and to offer any advice. We visited Barter Books, Dunstanburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle and several other attractions. We had a good meal in The Dirty Bottles and also The Treehouse Restaurant in Alnwick Gardens. Well Done Coquet Cottages 5* all round.

This clean, comfortable, homelike and well-equipped apartment was the perfect centre for a holiday exploring the wonderful county of Northumberland.

Perfecrtly positioned in terms of geography - with easy access to both coast and uplands - it is also perfectly situated within Rothbury, being right in the middle of this lively but peaceful town with all its useful shops, pubs and eating venues within a few steps of the doorway. A big bonus is that each of the major rooms boast large, sash windows looking over the pretty, bustling marketplace. The level of facilities is very good, with the unusually well-equipped kitchen and the exceptionally comfortable bed being worthy of special mention. Little touches like the scroll-top desk in the bedroom and the thoughtful, attractive decor are much appreciated. The owner is friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I had a superb holiday and Simonside apartment contributed greatly to its succes.

It was a joy to stay in your beautiful apartment and explore Northumberland. There is so much to do and see, only one day of rain. We walked Hadrians Wall, went to Hexham Races (had a few winners) Drove along the coast. Holy Island, Cragside, Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle, had dinner in the evening in the tree house. (my husband met somebody he had worked with) small world. Morpeth town is lovely and so is Corbridge. Caught the 10am train to Edinburgh as its £125 at 8am and half price after that. It takes 1 hour and 5 mins. There are lots of fab eating places. The book in the apartment with all the information in is wonderful. The country side is beautiful and the seaside best of both worlds. This is a fantastic base to explore. Looking forward to coming back. Thank you.

What a fabulous base to spend time exploring lovely Alnwick. Stylish, quality, comfortable in a prime position what’s not to love and meeting both the owners was an added bonus. The welcome hamper suited it’s name perfectly having local beer, good wine in fact everything needed to start your holiday. Too many restaurants to name them all. Thai Vibe – Calm ambience, beautiful presented food packed with flavour. Mumbai Flavours – friendly attentive staff, some Indian dishes with a twist. The Treehouse – if only for the magical atmosphere. The Market Tavern – do a mean gin & tonic! We are so looking forward to getting to know Northumberland. Thank you for making the moving process so much easier. Hope we see you in the future. Our very best wishes Carol & Syd.

Sumptuous and well-appointed – The Dukes has made a fabulous pied-a-terre for us in Alnwick. Welcome hamper and roses were a very pleasant touch. Everything was to a very high standard – compliments to the housekeeping team! Washer-dryer was very handy. We enjoyed good weather with lovely walks around Cragside, Howick Hall (great café) and from Alnmouth to Warkworth. Enjoyed a few cheery beers in The Tanners Arms and a very nice steak dinner at Adam and Eve (Friday night deal). Also can recommend Carlo’s for fish and chips – properly cooked and tasty! Of course we are leaving laden down with books from Barter Books (can also recommend the cheese scones) and some gorgeous wool from the Alnwick Yarn Shop – very friendly and helpful. We will return.
