What our customers say about their holidays

    • Helena Tang - Verified booking

The cottage was lovely, clean, and comfortable, and we enjoyed our stay.

The landlady was very considerate and helpful, and we especially appreciated the scones she left for us when we arrived. The setting was lovely--the cottage was adjacent to a large field, and we were thrilled to find cows coming straight up to our windows the second day after we arrived. The only issue we had was the lack of sound-proofing between our floor and the one above (the loft apartment). We could almost hear everything--the upstairs neighbors waking up, talking, walking, and my kids in the bedroom right below theirs could even hear them snoring at night! Fortunately my husband and I had the bedroom on the other side of the cottage which does not have a second floor, so our sleep was not disturbed. Finally, the website indicated that there is a washer, but there is none in the cottage although we could use the owners' in their kitchen for a 5 pound fee. This should have been made explicit on the website. While the landlady was accommodating, It is less convenient for us to have to work around the owner's schedule to do laundry.

Mel and Sandra are friendly and helpful hosts.

Molly the dog loves to play given half a chance and is a delight; wish it had been summer when we could have indulged her more. Stargazer's Field House is a really comfortable apartment with plenty of space throughout and equipped with most things you could need. It is in a super handy location for Hay for shopping and within easy driving access to the hills for walking. We very much appreciated the cake which awaited us as we did the fact that there were Christmas decorations, including tree, for the festive period - not to mention the wood burning stove which added to the atmosphere. The bed in the main bedroom was really comfortable which, combined with the tranquillity of the area, meant we enjoyed seven excellent nights' sleep. There was no-one upstairs whilst we were there which I had been a little apprehensive about so we were truly undisturbed. We all enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stargazer’s Field House.

The cottage is beautifully presented and well equipped. It is in an ideal position for walking or touring, rural but not isolated. Beautiful countryside to explore. We were made very welcome and appreciated the fresh flowers, Tea and Welsh cakes left for us. There is a lovely patio area which can be also be accessed from the double bedroom, our morning cuppa was enjoyed there as well as some evening meals. Besides the patio we were given access to part of the owners own extensive garden, our 4 year old grandson was in seventh heaven being able to use his bike freely in the area and enjoyed enormously his cycle races with the lovely Molly (the dog) who’s company we also enjoyed. A folder with lots of walks and tour information was provided, besides the usual activity pamphlet’s. We would definitely recommend this property and the wonderful countryside surrounding it.

This was a lovely cottage in a good location.

The owners were very helpful and gave useful advice on walks and places to eat. Hay on Wye is a quaint little town with some very good restaurants so we did not need to travel more than 3 miles to eat. There was not much to see in Hay unless you are really keen on books so most outings were about 30 miles or so into the Brecon Beacons or perhaps Hereford or Worcester. The cottage itself was well equipped and very comfortable. It was lovely sitting on the patio in the evening with a glass of wine. Being townies it was both refreshing and frustrating to have no mobile signal, TV that occasionally lost signal on BBC and broadband too slow to watch catch up TV. Holidays are about escaping technology so this was a minor point.

    • Joseph - Verified booking

The bed felt like a large single as opposed to a double.

This lead to an uncomfortable nights sleep for two adults. For a self catering apartment it was disappointing that only one small oven tray was provided. Made it difficult for more than one thing to be cooked at a time etc. Also whilst the welcome pack did state to wash everything before use(due to Covid-19) it did not give a good impression to discover dirty cutlery in a cutlery tray that itself was not clean. We made good use of the SmartTv and the walking brochures were an additional bonus to help us plan our days out. Definitely recommend the local Chinese takeaway. Overall a reasonable apartment to stay in and we were grateful for the hand sanitiser and gloves provided.
