"Tick Boxes are not our favourite things and can often be misleading. For instance Local Amenities above, score very low...BUT the cottage is in an open wilderness with a few others around... there are no amenities... and we do not miss them. The biggest amenity was some interesting books in the cottage. The main lack of amenity wasbeing unable to get a Wi-Fi connection except one that came up as not secure.Being able to use the laptop in the evening to plan the following days outing by looking on Google or Magic Maps helps one to pick out the places to visit and plan the best footpath routes etc.Location we give 10 to because of the wild open countryside but this location would not suitmany others for the very same reason.Comfort and equipment bring down the overall score through inattention to certain details during the refurbishment. These concern the kitchen layout and taps in the toilet and bathroom. The double bed was described as lumpy by my wife but my single bed in the other bedroom was fine. Thus the value for money was a lower score particularly against thecottage we had in the previous week in Torridon which was less expensive and had a dishwasher which for the price bracket of this cottage it should also have had.Views from the windows all around were interesting. The cottage was a good base and warm to come home to in the evening and not very far to the beach to catch the odd sunset after dinner. We travelled almost every single road on Vatersay, Barra, North and South Uist, Eriskayand Benbecula and over half the roads in on Harris. So we had a good week in spite of the weather. Kildonan museum was also worth the visit and there are a host of artist and crafters studios and galleries to visit with some exciting things being produced.Bearing in mind the relative Isolation of the islands and the friendliness of everyone we metwe were surprised by the scrap that was lying about in profusion. long dead cars and vans all over the place often several together in many places. Old van bodies being almost universally used as sheds in gardens. Red telephone boxes with the majority having their doors ripped off or hanging at an obtuse angle. It does not give a good impression."

"On our arrival at Beach Bay Cottage we were immediately blown away by the absolutely stunning location, with the cottage perched on the hillside literately overlooking Uig bay. The bespoke design and high standard of finish in the cottage fits perfectly into its surroundings and is worthy of its five star rating. The views from the picture window in the living area are trully spectacular, ever changing with the contrasting weather, light and tides providing a magical atmosphere. The cottage is equipped with TVs throughout, however they were never on, in favour of the silence and darkness of the location. Beach bay is ideally situated to enjoy the remoteness of the area, the local amenities are scarce but the Uig community shop 5min drive away, is very well stocked to provide all groceries and fuel. Cannot complete this review without mentioning the Scallop Shack a 10 min drive away, where the hand dived scallops are truly outstanding! This is the perfect spot to chill and recharge your batteries, there are great beaches, great walks and spectacular scenery from the moment you step outside the door and plenty more nearby. We had a fantastic week at Beach Bay Cottage and would highly recommend a visit should the opportunity arise."

"This place is truly magical. The house is beautifully conceived and blends so well with its stunning surroundings. Even it’s subtle scheme echoes the stunning colours of Uig bay. Everything has been thought of to make the house and the stay easy and relaxing. You feel made very welcome by George and Lynda and get the sense they want you to love it as much as they do! It’s quite difficult to leave the house sometimes! But when you do, there is plenty to occupy within walking distance - stunning coastal walks, the Uig Sands restaurant, and possibly the best distillery tour ever at Abhainn Dearg distillery at the end of the road. Seriously difficult to say farewell at the end of our week ?Just perfect."

"An excellent base for touring the Southern Islands of the Outer Hebrides. All amenities close by and wonderful views in all directions from the Cottage. Great welcome and support throughout. Hard to understand some previous comments on website and in-house comment book, almost that some people must have been expecting city amenities when in fact they are actually visiting a remote and beautiful island location - perhaps a bit of research before they went would have been worthwhile for them. For those who want a holiday and adventure away from the hustle and bustle this is a perfect and extremely comfortable base."

"The cottage is everything we wanted. Absolute luxury, nothing we could want for and wonderful silence except for the sounds of the sea and birds. We didn’t go for local amenities and there is nothing close to the cottage but that’s fine. The community shop at Uig is excellent and only 10 minutes drive away. I wouldn’t bother stocking up in Stornoway too much as the shop has lots to choose from. There are no pubs or restaurants within easy walking distance. The Uig Sands restaurant is 10 mins drive and is very good.If you want a peaceful, romantic setting in a luxury dwelling they don’t get much better than this."
