    Self-catering holidays in Somerset

From the mysterious moorlands to charming seaside towns, and from sea caves to lively cities, Somerset has so much to offer as a UK holiday destination. And what better way to experience this beautiful and varied county than a stay in a Somerset holiday cottage?

Somerset's stunning landscapes are ripe for exploring, characterised by moody moorlands, rolling green hills and rugged coastline. So whether you want to feel the sea air on your face, or wish to take a leisurely stroll surrounded by nature, there is something for you here. A trip to Somerset would also be incomplete without sampling some of the county's famous cheese and cider, so make sure you arrive hungry!

Somerset, although a rural place, can also get pretty lively. With some the country's most cosmopolitan cities within Somerset's borders, there are plenty of museums, galleries and shopping centres to explore. Plus, the county is home to one of the most famous musical festivals in the world at Glastonbury, the illuminated festival and Guy Fawkes Festival, as well as a number of comedy clubs as featured in our guide to comedy nights.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Emma - Verified booking

We had a lovely 3 night stay at Field View.

We wanted to be as remote as possible to avoid any NYE fireworks and this was the perfect location. Nicola and Mike have thought of everything, this is a luxurious home from home place to be. The kitchen is well equipped making self catering easy, there is a great strong shower, and super comfy bed. The garden was completely secure for our dog so we had no concerns there. Although we were there in December at no point were we cold, the property has lovely solid floors so we were pleased we had packed our slippers (we always do) but the cottage stayed warm throughout as there are lots of radiators and heated towel rails. Bedding was spotlessly clean and there was an abundance of towels. Nicola and Mike had also kindly popped in some welcome treats which were very much appreciated, especially the freshly laid eggs. Although remote and rural the Greyhound Pub is only a short drive away, and Taunton was only about a 15 min drive away. The views were amazing and we were only disappointed that we weren’t there longer in warmer weather to have a lazy breakfast in the garden. We would definitely return and definitely recommend.

      Very friendly and helpful hosts.

They took great care to welcome us and even booked the pub for us for the evening meal. (Phone reception not great in parts of Somerset). A great location to see most of Somerset from. We really enjoyed it in spite of the terrible weather. The property was lovely and well equipped. In its own beautiful garden. The only slight downside was the size and location of the bathroom but it was sufficient. I would not recommend the property if you have any mobility issues because of the steep stairs to the bedroom. For anyone else it is a lovely unusual property, beautifully decorated and designed. Enough of a kitchen to make your own meals and eat at the table and a reasonable seating area with sofa and two armchairs to sit and chat and look out on the garden or alternatively watch the TV. A couple of good pubs in walking distance for meals, a great local store. Near to some wonderful walks - RSPB reserves and National Trust. From the visitor book there are a lot of repeat customers, and I can see why. Would definitely book again in the future - if available. Many thanks for such a good stay and such caring hosts.

      What a gem!

The cottage is located surrounded by countryside. You have wonderful views, beautiful birdsong all day, incredible sunsets & we were even lucky enough to see deer in the field twice during our stay! It's the most lovely place to relax, unwind & get away from it all. The cottage itself is just perfect! So well equipped, comfortable & clean throughout. That fireplace is stunning. The owners, Nicola and Mike, are just so lovely, so friendly & we enjoyed chatting with them during our stay. And meeting their gorgeous doggies too. It's great they're just next door & on hand if you need anything, but equally they give you complete privacy whilst you're at the cottage. We were so lucky with the endless sunshine whilst we stayed, but the cottage stayed so cool inside which was great for our elderly springer. We had such a relaxing few days & although we explored different places in the area, or was equally just at nice to sit in the garden & absorb the views. We couldn't recommend Field View enough & we will definitely be back to stay again

We would like to thank Mike and Nicola for providing us with a beautiful little cottage for our holiday.

The welcome pack really was welcome after the journey down from Yorkshire. The cottage is really well set out and you can see that a lot of time and effort has been taken to make sure the guests have a good time whilst there. It is the most peaceful tranquil cottage we have been in with amazing scenery and sunsets, we managed to go to Dorset, Devon and Somerset attractions whilst there and the only negative we had is that we didn't have more time there than the week we had, our problem not there's. The bed was amazing and you could have stayed there all day but then you wouldn't see any of the amazing countryside and towns. You have all the equipment to cook for yourself or go for a drink and a meal at one of the local pubs, the Greyhound is really good and very popular. Again many thanks to you both and not forgetting Lily, we hope to come back to see you again soon but this time it will be for a longer break, take care of yourselves. Rosaline and Steve (Sheffield).

Lovely warm greeting by Simon, Bridget and Tara, always friendly and on hand to provide any required information.

Not intrusive happy to chat or give you as much privacy as you want. The property has everything you could need and a lovely garden view with an established garden and wonderful birds to watch. The bed was very comfortable and huge, with no noise disturbance which was led to fabulous rest. Homely touches included flowers and a fully equipped kitchen. They were very generous with the wood supply which kept us toasty and warm. We visited the local area including numerous national trust properties Dunster and Tyntesfield highly recommended . Cheddar Gorge where we the cliff top walk was very muddy but stunning views.Glastonbury (on the local bus - the bus stop is seconds walk away) and Weston-super-mare to name a few. There is a very well stocked local shop /post office which is open until 7 Mon- Sat closing at 4 on a Sunday. Recommended this beautiful haven in a lovely part of the country. Jen and Ian.
