"This is a well equipped, comfortable, clean cottage but I do have mixed feelings about it. The top floor with it’s open plan kitchen, dining, living room is well equipped and very comfortable with a lovely balcony with rattan furniture and open views (nicer than the photo). The lower floor has a lovely bathroom with a large, powerful shower and bath. The 2 bedrooms are roomy with lots of storage but take some coat hangers. The main bedroom has what could be a very nice terrace but it needs attention: weeds are sprouting through the paving which is desperately in need of a jet wash. In terms of the setting, it is true that there are lovely waterside walks and a nice pub/restaurant 2 minutes away. However, the description fails to mention the boat repair and storage business that is right neck door and which has cars, boats and huge boat trailers coming and going all day long and which you have to navigate through to reach the cottage and park your car. Not quite the ‘peaceful’ setting described. We did have a good holiday there and enjoyed using the living area and the bottle of wine kindly left by the owner but overall feel it could be better and is a little overpriced."

"We are big fans, as this was our 4th stay at The Carpenters Shop which is a fascinating detached modern home in a quiet location. The Carpenters Shop is just what we wanted for a relaxing holiday away from traffic. It is one on three very individual properties in the area called Robins Nest, each with their own garden, catering for different size families, and they're all owned by the same charming landlord who couldn't be more helpful. We've enjoyed watching the deer and hares in the adjoining fields, looking at the stars at night and listening to the owls. The local amenities are are really good but they're over 2 miles away in Wickham Market, so you need your own transport. There's plenty in Suffolk to see and enjoy so there's a very good chance we'll be back for a 5th visit next year."

"I loved staying in this cottage. It is pretty, comfortable, well-equipped and well maintained and set in gorgeous gardens in a stunning location. The best thing about Calico Cottage for me is that there are lots of country walks to choose from right from the doorstep, and our host had helpfully put together some notes to help steer us in the right direction. The view from the garden is exceptional and even on cooler days the lovely summer house provided a great place to sit with a cup of coffee and a book and take it all in. It is a very rural setting but within a short walk of a nice country pub and some shops and cafes in the village of Hope. As nearly every other guest has said, I would love to go back for a return trip some day."

"Really nice location and very quiet. All you need is in the cottage and cleanliness reasonably good. Sadly looks like maintenance is required to get the cottage up to scratch.Mould in shower, Windows very dirty including patio doors, loose toppings on brick wall outside, porch outside patio doors leaking, old sat dish not in use still attached and many other bits and bobs that if sorted would make this an excellent option instead of just good.Tom was very nice and approachable as was his wife, just not a handy man I guess. Not to paint to bad a picture bed linen and towels very clean as was the furniture, we would not return as generally we like to visit different places, but would probably recommend the cottage as a option.p"

"A very clean and well appointed flat with good sized rooms and adequate kitchen facilities. Good heating/hot water and a comfortable bed added to the homely feel of the place and good off street parking was, for us, a must.At our pace of walking it took 20 minutes to reach the theatres and nearer half an hour to reach the main shops but, at a good pace, those times could be halved. Would certainly recommend this place and, from the comments in the book, many people make return visits as we may well do in the future."
