Meifod itself offers a friendly, small-village atmosphere with a local pub and shop within walking distance, and is surrounded by wooded hills, riverbanks, and farmland, making it a haven for walkers and nature lovers.
Just a short drive away, Welshpool (6 miles) offers a great mix of shops, pubs, and restaurants, alongside attractions such as the charming Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and the grand Powis Castle and Gardens, known for its impressive terraces and world-class formal gardens. Montgomery and Llanfyllin, two other historic market towns, are also close by and well worth a visit for their character, independent shops, and cafés.
For lovers of the outdoors, the Shropshire Hills and Snowdonia National Park are both within reach for hiking, cycling, or simply taking in the incredible scenery. The Mid Wales coast is also just over an hour’s drive (42 miles), with sandy beaches, seaside villages, and harbour towns to discover at your own pace. Lake Vyrnwy, where birdwatchers will also be very much in their element thanks to the rspb reserve and a wide variety of native species. Amazing stay at Oakwood Lodge.The lodge is located right in the heart of the owners fields in which they tend to lots of sheep which are right up to the accomodation and is really fascinating to watch when the sheep are hurded together on a daily basis.The lodge is very modern and really clean and the hotub is a fab.Located just outside of Meiford village in which you will find a local shop and pub and the walk into the village is about 20 mins from the accomodation.Lovely welcome pack on arrival from the owners.Would definitely return and recommend to anyone looking for a lodge accomodation.

We've just finished the most peaceful and wonderful week at Pen-Y-Lan Oakwood Lodge! We cannot praise the hosts enough, from their carefully thought out design, space, views, lodges, care to detail and everyday interactions with us! We came as a family of 4 (2 children) and a dog. The dog had bowls ready for him, a little treat tub, there was a lovely basket of treats on the table for us when we arrived. The lodge has everything you need and the hot-tub just adds to the whole relaxation feel! Honestly, a true hidden gem. If you like space, peace and quiet then this is for you with a touch of luxury. The surrounding area is just as wonderful, the kids loved watching the hosts who are also the farmers rounding up and feeding the sheep on their quad everyday, the sheepdogs greet us like they know us, there are swallows swooping over the pond in front of the lodges (we helped one- whole other story but amazing), and the sky at night is exceptional for any fellow stargazers out there (bring a telescope)! You could come just for a relaxation break and if you like adventure, walking and outdoors there is lots to do out of the immediate area. The hosts were very happy to tell us all the good places to go. Not a bad word to say about this place, we will certainly be back. Thank you for a fantastic holiday, we felt relaxed and comfy from the minute we arrived

We stayed in Oakwood Lodge for a 4 night midweek stay and its idyllic for peace and quiet with excellent views and 5☆ quality. The owner was very helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. Everything provided was to a very high standard. We loved sitting out on the balcony, (which was very safe for dogs) watching the numerous birds so bring your binoculars. The hot tube was fantastic, great for an afternoon soak after walking. Its a working farm but we were not troubled by any noise or disturbance. Its about 15 minutes walk to the local village, so ideally placed. Would we go again? most definitely summer or winter.
