About this property

Enveloped by breath-taking countryside views in the rural village of Mallwyd, Gwynedd, is Yr Hen Bost, a stunning, three-bedroom home. Once the village's post office, Yr Hen Bost has been sympathetically-restored, mixing both original beamed ceilings, slate windowsills, and stable doors, with state-of-the-art appliances and stylish furnishings, offering a wonderful base for a family break to the Snowdonia National Park. Park up off-road and take in the far-reaching, hillside vistas encompassing your new abode. Head indoors to be greeted by the inviting sitting room, complete with wooden flooring, plush seating, and a rustling woodburning stove to light on cooler evenings, offering a relaxing space to unwind with a good book.

Locate the fully-equipped, farmhouse style kitchen/diner, oozing character with a feature AGA and exposed brickwork on show; use this space to prepare and enjoy meals as a family, whilst on the lower-ground-floor, you'll locate a handy utility. Spend the evening in the external games room, complete with a dart board, pool table, air hockey table, and foosball table, also offering space to store your outdoor gear after a day of hiking, cycling or kayaking. Catch some rest from one of the three delightfully-presented bedrooms, including a double with TV and a sleek en-suite shower room, a further double with a desk for homeworking, and a lovely king-size.

Head into the village to stock up on the essentials or to dine out at The Brigands Inn pub, a firm favourite in the local area, before taking to the nearby countryside, exploring the Abercorris North Wales Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve, and the Corris Cavern Mines, also home to the Dyfi Distyllery. The market town of Machynlleth is a car journey away, home to further independent shops and lovely eateries, along with The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and the Dyfi Osprey Project, whilst outdoor enthusiasts will relish in the chance to summit the nearby mountain range, including Penygader (Cadair Idris), and Yr Wyddfa itself (Snowdon).

The region is brimming with rural walking trails and secluded beauty spots, worth adding to your itinerary, from hikes across the Precipice Walk route, to strolls alongside RSPB Llyn Vyrnwy and Rhiwagor Waterfall, or for a fun-filled afternoon, make the longer but worthwhile trip towards Zip World Llechwedd, offering something for all of the family. Escape to the countryside at Yr Hen Bost.

In the spectacular Dovey valley, which is dominated by the magnificent Aran Mountains, in the southern region of Snowdonia National Park, there is a small rural community called Mallwyd that is surrounded by lovely scenery. The well-known Brigands Inn, a former coaching inn from the 15th century that now takes pride in its inviting ambiance and fine meals, is located in the village. Three further bars are nearby, and the Meirion Woollen Mill, which is available to visitors and is situated on the banks of the River Dovey, is also nearby. It is only 11 kilometres to the charming market town of Dolgellau, which is nestled next to one of Wales' most stunning mountains, Cader Idris. Its 17th Century bridges, church, and variety of bars and eating establishments provide a nice environment. Aberdovey, a charming seaside community with a harbour and lovely sandy beach, is 20 miles away and ideal for an adventurous day trip. Across much of Snowdonia, including the close-by Coed-y-Brenin Forest with its world-famous mountain bike paths, this area is a paradise for walking, climbing, mountain biking, and birdwatchers.

Parking a car may be very restricted. Rooms, kitchen, toilets are all fine. In the bigger upstair, toilet door was not closing from inside and in the second room with an en-suit toilet there was no door at all. This may be bit inconvenient for anyon. I guess this is because the house was recently refurbished. Overall, nice place to live for a 5/6 persons.

The cottage itself is beautifully renovated and very well equipped. We were particularly impressed with how well equipped the kitchen is and the provision not only of the welcome pack but also staples such as flour, spices and pasta - perfect for holiday baking and cooking. We enjoyed exploring some of the local area, which was somewhat limited due to particularly bad weather. That said, the comfort of the house - the beds, shower and fire - meant it wasn't a hardship. We loved seeing the red kites over the valley daily, and enjoyed a final day visit to Barmouth, when the sun finally appeared. Thanks to Will for the great communication and for efforts to ensure we had a great stay.
