Guests say

Bwthyn Llys is a charming, characterful cottage in the heart of Machynlleth, ideal for couples or small families seeking a cosy retreat. Guests praise its historic features, modern kitchen and bathroom, and proximity to shops, restaurants, and local attractions. The cottage is well-equipped for short breaks and offers a unique, quirky atmosphere. Some mention the compact size, limited outdoor space, and minor maintenance issues, but overall, visitors enjoy the comfort and convenience of this well-located property.

Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, especially the main areas and bathroom. However, one review noted the second bedroom did not feel clean, which slightly lowers the score.

The location is highly praised for its convenience, being close to the town centre, shops, restaurants, and tourist attractions. Some mention proximity to a busy road, but overall, the setting is considered excellent.

Guests found the cottage cosy, with comfortable beds and a cool interior during hot weather. The space is best suited for two people, and the steep stairs and small second bedroom may not suit everyone, but most found it comfortable for their needs.

The cottage is well-equipped with a modern kitchen and bathroom, but some guests noted issues such as variable hot water, lack of a washing machine, and limited outdoor space. Suggestions for minor improvements were made, but overall facilities met most guests' expectations.

There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

We loved staying in this historic cottage with our small terrier., in this interesting little town. We were there during the recent record-breaking heatwave, and the downstairs with its thick walls and the back door open was wonderfully cool. Exceptionally hot weather aside, it was ideal for a couple or small family, though the small bedroom is very small and could do with a fan (this week). Stairs steep but short flight and manageable for these oldies. It is tastefully decorated, with a small but ergonomic kitchen, with everything provided for cooking. The outside area is very small, but useful. Could be greatly improved with smaller garden furniture, fairy lights, fake hanging plants and a curtain to hide bin store. Just a thought! A retractable washing line/airer would be handy for hand washing (no washing machine but there is a launderette near Machynlleth Spar). Definitely check out Wednesday Market Day stalls while there Lots of great eateries a short walk away, we liked the Wynnstay (Friday has fab free folk session), Hennighan's chippy and excellent home-cooked Sunday lunch at Caffi Owain Glyndŵr. Oh, and you can buy milk and snacks 24/7 from Y Cwtsh Llaeth vending machine a few steps from the front door. We'd love to return at some point.
