Guests say

Garth Craig is a well-received holiday cottage in Porthmadog, praised for its stunning views, spaciousness, and cleanliness. Guests appreciate its proximity to local attractions and the thoughtful touches from the owners. While access can be challenging due to steps and parking is limited, the property's comfort and facilities generally leave a positive impression.

The property consistently receives high praise for its cleanliness, with multiple reviews mentioning it being 'very clean' and 'spotlessly clean'. This indicates a high standard of cleanliness maintained at the property.

The location is highly regarded for its magnificent views and convenience to the town and local attractions. Some guests mention the challenge of steps and uphill access, but overall, the location is celebrated for its proximity to railways, Snowdon, and the town.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with several reviews highlighting the comfort of the beds and the warmth of the house. The property seems to cater well to the comfort of its guests.

Facilities are generally well-received, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen and sufficient space. However, some issues with maintenance, such as a leak and a gas fire door problem, slightly lower the score.

The owners' thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with guests appreciating the welcome basket and good communication. While these gestures are warmly received, it is noted that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed.

About this property

A delightful, double-fronted, end-terrace cottage, set in an elevated position close to the centre of Porthmadog, yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the marina and shops of this North Wales seaside resort. Comfortable and welcoming, this former sea captain's home dates back to the 1850s and offers charm and character with a superb sea, harbour and estuary panorama and delightful views of both the Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway in the distance, and the beach at Borth-y-Gest just a 15 minute walk away. Decorated and furnished in a homely style, this Porthmadog cottage has a large and airy kitchen and dining area and two sitting rooms that have been refurbished for 2019 on the ground floor.

On the first floor are four bedrooms with a second floor twin bedroom with en-suite basin and WC, accessed up a quaint winding staircase, making this Porthmadog cottage a fantastic family holiday home. A sloping front lawned garden offers seating and sunbathing opportunities whilst enjoying the far-stretching views, and with the beach, harbour and town just a short walk away, this Porthmadog cottage makes a perfect place to stay. All the amenities of this historic seaside port are on the doorstep - explore the steam railway, visit the craft and souvenir shops, excellent restaurants, tea rooms and inns, or stroll along the coast to the famous Black Rock Sands beach.

Surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Snowdonia National Park and the North Wales coastline and with nearby attractions such as the zip wire near Llanberis and the trampoline underground and the biking centre at Llechwedd, this Porthmadog cottage is a wonderful holiday home all year round.

The town of Porthmadog is situated on the Glaslyn Estuary and is the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park. This harbour town has many shops and restaurants, and is also the home for the Ffestiniog Railway. Just a short walk or drive from Porthmadog is the village of Borth Y Gest, plus the Italienate village of Portmeirion is close by. Also in driving distence is the towns of Criccieth and Harlech, and the sandy beaches at Black Rock Sands.

Warm and comfortable, with all the facilities you need, and within a stone's throw to the town. The owners were extremely generous in every way, and left us a lovely welcome basket with wine, tea, Welsh cakes and fresh flowers. The beds were very comfortable and the house was spotlessly clean. Thank you Judith and Eric for everything - we hope to return soon!

Garth Craig was a lovely place to stay. From arriving to leaving it was really comfortable. Property information was excellent and lots of information for the area. The welcome basket and flowers was a lovely touch by Eric and Judith. The kitchen was very well equipped. If we go back to Porthmadog would definitely stay again. Awesome location all be it a few steps down to the town but that’s Wales for you.

My bed was the most comfortable I have ever enjoyed in a holiday home. There was properly hot water for baths and an extremely well equipped kitchen. The parking is what it is, absolutely manageable for a small to medium car. The owners and the caretaker Steven, could not have been more helpful without being at all intrusive. Amazingly peaceful for a town location. I recommend the entire Portmeirion experience including the outlets in Porthmadog itself which are not just about that iconic flowery crockery. It is all easily walkable. Train lovers will appreciate the views and accessibility of the steam railway. I had a wonderful time and would certainly come back.
