About this property

A double-fronted, Grade II listed period town house, dating back to the 1840s, overlooking the harbour town of Porthmadog. This former sea captain’s home is situated in an elevated position, commanding stunning views of the harbour, estuary, mountains and the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Steam Railways. Away from the hustle and bustle of the marina and high street, but still a short stroll away from the town centre amenities, Afallon is the perfect place to enjoy a seaside holiday. The property has been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard while many original features, such as stripped pine doors, beams and feature fireplaces, have been well maintained and preserved. Now, beautifully decorated and styled, with French influences and a well-balanced mix of shabby chic furnishings and modern additions throughout, attention to detail is everywhere you look. The cottage owners have created a welcoming home-from-home, so you can take away wonderful lasting memories of your holiday. The sitting room is light and airy, with a window seat enjoying beautiful views and a warming multi-fuel stove set into a lovely feature fireplace. The dining room, with an inglenook fireplace and woodburner-style gas fire, is nice and spacious, so the whole family can sit and dine together. French doors open into a bespoke kitchen, with plenty of worktop space, a Belfast sink. It extends to a seating area with a feature stone wall and comfy corner sofa, creating a fantastic social hub for the whole family. High ceilings accentuate the generous accommodation downstairs, and the three bedrooms are no exception. All well-presented, the master bedroom and twin room boast fantastic views of the harbour, whilst the master also offers a contemporary en-suite shower room. The bathroom is also well appointed, with a separate shower cubicle and double-ended jacuzzi bath. To the front of the cottage is a delightful, enclosed courtyard with seating and marvellous views of the estuary and mountains over the low garden wall, while to the rear is a mature, enclosed tiered garden boasting an abundance of trees and shrubs, with seating areas on two different levels. Take a ride on the steam railway and stroll along the coast to the Black Rock Sands beach, or the pretty village of Borth-y-Gest. Surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Snowdonia National Park and the North Wales coastline, you can also visit the Llechwedd Slate Caverns and Zip World Titan, as well as Bounce Below and Zip World Caverns at Blaenau Ffestiniog. Discover the Italianate village of Portmeirion, and Criccieth, with its 13th century castle perched on the headland. Explore the Llyn Peninsula, the many watersports opportunities at Abersoch, and the quaint fishing village of Aberdaron. Everything is so accessible, making this Porthmadog cottage the perfect place to stay all year round.

The bustling harbour town of Porthmadog lies on the Glaslyn Estuary and enjoys a stunning setting. The gateway to the Snowdonia National Park, Porthmadog is full of individual shops and restaurants, and home to the Ffestiniog Railway, where you can travel by steam through spectacular Snowdonia scenery, to Blaenau Ffestiniog.
