About this property

Set in the quiet, rural village of Y Fron, just over 6 miles from Caernarfon, North Wales lies this quaint holiday cottage, Bod Feurig. Ideal for hosting families or small groups, this property offers a wealth of stunning views, serving as a perfect base for those looking to explore Y Fron and the surrounding countryside. Kick off your muddy boots before you make the most of the quaint living room where you can relax and unwind by the woodburning stove whilst watching a film on the Smart TV, whip up delicious meals with family in the fully-fitted kitchen before taking a seat in the dining room, the perfect spot to catch up on the day’s activities.

Head upstairs, where the double bedroom invites you to sleep and rejuvenate, whilst the second bedroom with a single bunk bed is perfect for younger ones who want to rest their heads after a long day out. What a little gem ‘Bod Feurig’ is-a traditional rustic cottage snuggled in the village of Fron. This quiet little village boasts spectacular views towards the Menai Straits, wonderfully central for a wide variety of days out. North Wales is renowned for its narrow gauge railways, including within easy reach, the Snowdon Mountain Railway, Llanberis Lake Railway, Ffestiniog Railway, and Welsh Highland Railway. The Welsh Highland Railway runs between Caernarfon and Porthmadog, and offers what must be one of the great railway journeys of the world.

Slate quarrying was a huge industry in the 19th century, relics of which abound. Fron was a key player, and many of the track beds of the tramways around the village are now easily graded footpaths. At Inigo Jones and Llechwedd (Blaenau Ffestiniog), visitors may try their hand at working slate themselves. Castles are a prominent feature of the Welsh coastline, the nearest of which is in Caernarfon. In addition, there are the remains of Segontium-a Roman fort. Caernarfon was the location for the Investiture of the then Prince Charles as Prince of Wales in 1969, and ‘The Crown’ in 2019.

Closer to Fron is the Pant Du vineyard at Pen y Groes, offering good wines and delightful cider. Further afield is the Tyddyn Mawr golf course at Llanrug, beaches at Dinas Dinlle, and Black Rock Sands at Morfa Bychan. There are salmon in the rivers, art galleries and craft centres, and helicopter rides from Caernarfon Airport. At Minfordd the Italianate village of Portmeirion nestles along the shore of the Dwryd, where the 'Prisoner' series featuring Patrick McGoohan as No. 6, was set. For younger visitors, there is a wide choice of exciting activities, including go-karting (Glasfryn go-carting), zip wire flying (Bethesda, and Llechwedd), and a range of activities at Greenwood Forest Park, Y Felinhelli.

Something for all ages, and whatever the weather. Hungry? There are several Michelin-starred restaurants dotted around, supplemented by purveyors of traditional fish & chips, and Indian, Chinese, and Pizza takeaways. Beddgelert is the home of Glaslyn Ices, reputed to be the finest ice cream in the world. They also do excellent pizzas. At Beddgelert, learn about the brave hound Gelert, which died to save a child, and see the statue in its memory. Whatever you choose to do, have fun, enjoy Wales, and at the end of a busy day, relax in front of a real log fire. All of this and much more awaits you during your stay at Bod Feurig.

The charming, peaceful community of Penygroes is just six miles from Caernarfon, a historic castle town, and it borders the Snowdonia National Park, where great treks and mountain vistas are easily accessible. The hamlet has a nice assortment of stores, cafes, and bars, and the surrounding area is full with restaurants and recreational opportunities like golfing, swimming, tennis, surfing, and horseback riding, to mention a few. The Gun Room restaurant is located at the nearby Plas Dinas Country House, which is also the site of some fascinating history. The beaches on Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula may be reached in about 30 minutes, while Dinas Dinlle's beach is only 10 minutes away by car. Caernarfon Castle, which is located nearby and is well worth a visit, offers additional shops and eateries in addition to steam train excursions. Another nearby location that was a setting for the television show "The Prisoner" is Portmeirion. The Welsh Heritage Center, which features a licenced cafe at Nant Nwrtheyrn with stunning sea views from its outdoor dining area, is only 8 miles distant. Beddgelert is a charming community with a wonderful arts and crafts store, a number of pubs, and is encircled by the stunning Snowdonia National Park. If you're in the region, it's well worth a trip.

It's a typical miners cottage as described; really quaint, warm, and very peacefully located. It was very clean and well presented though a little dated, especially in the kitchen, though we felt that added character. The bathroom was modern and again spotlessly clean. We did have trouble finding the washer dryer in the outhouse, but the key on the hook by the door gave us the clue. It rained most the week but hardly souls that we are, we hiked every day so the washing dryer was very welcome though the dryer wasn't particularly good and we ended up drying clothes on the airer. I'm not sure if this was user error but compared to mine at home, things came out damp even after 2 hours of drying. It was just me and my grown daughter visiting and for two it was perfectly spacious. We cooked most evenings and couldn't fault the kitchen contents (implements, pots and pans, dishes etc all well stocked) despite it's tiny size and dated surfaces/cupboards. The one concern we had was for the awkward step into the bathroom at night. The night light helped and we never had a problem but for small children this might be something for parents to be careful about. If we visit the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It was cheap compared to others in the area so we felt it was good value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and the area.

The cottage was charming. We arrived late and the owner had kindly put the heater on to warm the cottage through which was appreciated. The kitchen is small but very well equipped with everything you need. Great location to explore North Wales in the day and come back to a cosy log fire in the evening.

The fridge was too small and not working properly. The electric shower the water was too hot and suddenly too cold and very weak. Also as self catering cottage was lacking of frying pans and big pots ie to cook pasta ,rice etc... they had one very sticky , All the rest was fine, generally speaking we had great time.
