About this property

This delightful, Victorian end-terrace property is situated in the university city of Bangor, and with many Victorian properties, Swyn y Gwynt is no exception when it comes to character features. Located on a residential street on the outskirts of Bangor, this delightful cottage, as the name Sound of the Wind suggests, enjoys the sea breeze, and lovely sea views overlooking the historic Port Penrhyn and Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey. Having undergone a successful scheme of refurbishment this lovely, homely cottage offers all the home comforts whilst blending traditional styling with some contemporary influences. Swyn y Gwynt is a great base, whether for business or for exploring this beautiful area, being within easy reach of the main University buildings, the Arts Centre, Bangor Cathedral, Bangor’s Victorian pier, M&S and Aldi supermarkets, the Bus terminal and Rail station, suitable for couples, friends or a small family. Downstairs offers a spacious sitting room with bay window and an open fire, a sofa bed for flexible sleeping arrangements, and a well-appointed and equipped kitchen with dining area and patio doors; a great spot to enjoy a family breakfast! Upstairs are the two bedrooms, the main bedroom boasting sea views. Both bedrooms are serviced by the family bathroom with a traditional style suite and shower over the bath. Outside, accessed through the patio doors off the kitchen is a private, enclosed courtyard, an ideal place to sit and relax, enjoy the evening sun with a drink and an early supper, alfresco. The Welsh Slate Landscape has recently become a UNESCO World Heritage Site and this lovely cottage is ideally situated for exploring Snowdonia and Anglesey. There is a cycle route close by, following a disused railway line from the port up into the mountains and the Penrhyn slate quarries above Bethesda and Zip World Velocity, the world’s fastest zip line. Llechwedd deep mine site in Blaenau Ffestiniog is worth a visit and Penrhyn Castle, a National Trust property, is a short drive away. The magnificent Caernarfon castle is just a short drive away, and is the starting point for the spectacular Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway, a 25-mile-long narrow gauge railway that twists and turns its way through some of Snowdonia’s most wonderful scenery. Anglesey with its beautiful beaches and Beaumaris, a delightful small town which also boasts a castle, are both within easy reach. Swyn y Gwynt is a great place to stay anytime of the year!

Bangor is a town on the North Wales coast with shops, bars and restaurants. Across the water, the castle and pier at Beaumaris make a lovely day out, or you can catch a boat to Puffin Island. The Anglesey Coastal Path has great scenery and beaches. Plas Newydd is on the island, while on the mainland further National Trust properties can be found including Penrhyn Castle and Bodnant Gardens. Snowdonia is a short drive way, with castles, beaches and other attractions on offer in this region. Bangor and the Menai Straits really do offer the best of both worlds!
