About this property

Ty Fy Hen Nain (the owner’s great grandmother’s house) is a delightful, three-storey mid-terrace cottage settled near the quaint village of Carrog near Corwen, Denbighshire. This house, originally a miner’s cottage, is now all about the welcoming, contemporary interior and the gorgeous views to the rear across the Dee valley and beyond into Snowdonia. As one guest put it: “Don’t judge this house by its exterior! Inside this is a very comfortable home and the views looking out are stunning”. As you enter the property, be welcomed by a snug, offering a leather sofa and plush chairs resting next to a crackling woodburning stove. Continue to the rear of the property to find a living/dining room with stylish seating for you to lounge on whilst you spend some quality time with your loved ones; the light streaming in from the floor-length windows and gorgeous views across the valley add a convivial feel to the space; making for a fantastic socialising and dining spot. Between the two is the contemporary kitchen, where sleek, grey units provide everything the aspiring chef of the group needs to whip up culinary delights for all to enjoy. There is also a handy cloakroom on the ground floor. When sleep calls, retire to one of three fantastic bedrooms, with two located on the first floor, consisting of a bunk with a Juliet balcony to the rear and a double room to the front; both rooms enjoy charming, wood furnishings and lovely views. The bedrooms on the first floor enjoy access to a fabulous shower room. Continue up the spiral staircase to the second floor, which beholds a spacious king-size bedroom featuring an en-suite shower room, and a wide Juliet balcony, so you can enjoy a morning coffee whilst soaking up the elevated views of the country. If you choose to bring along a canine companion, you will be pleased to find an enclosed, decked area to the rear of the property, so they can stretch their legs in a secure space. The decked rear garden is a lovely place to dine alfresco whilst enjoying the Welsh air and, of course, the view. After walking along the River Dee in Carrog, why not venture to the highly rated Grouse Inn for a spot of lunch, before embarking on an afternoon walk up to the disused Penarth Slate Quarry with fabulous views across the whole valley? The restored heritage steam railway runs from Carrog to Llangollen, one of the delightful scenic railway journeys of North Wales; avoid the parking fees and take a trip by train to Llangollen for the day. The house is a great vantage point to watch the trains arrive and depart; the station is close enough that on hearing the whistle echoing up the valley, your own band of Railway Children have time to run down the lane and wave to the trains. The town of Corwen is a short drive away and provides all your amenities in one handy location, including a convenience store and a handful of eateries; just beyond Corwen is the acclaimed Rhug farm shop and restaurant where you can sample the best of the local organic food scene. Only a few miles outside Corwen is one of the UK’s finest outdoor go-karting venues where you can experience the speed and thrills of this major track. Those seeking some adventure can visit Llangollen, a town sitting amongst a range of unspoilt countryside beholding the stunning sights of the Horseshoe Pass, Castell Dinas Bran, Valle Crucis Abbey, World's End and Moel Morfydd. Don’t miss the World Heritage site of the awesome Pontcysytlle Aqueduct; Llangollen is famed for its whitewater rafting opportunities, and world class kayaking course. All along the Vale of Llangollen there are endless opportunities for scenic hikes; the Llantisillio mountain to the rear of the property is well worth exploring, and the Berwyns to the front are vast, remote and steeped in myth and legend. Anglers will be delighted to find that some of the best grayling, trout and salmon fishing in Europe is available here on the river Dee; Ty Fy Hen Nain is a short walk from a main beat, with plenty of others to try both up and down stream. Spend some time in Bala, a community resting within Snowdonia National Park and featuring an esteemed golf club, along with the lake of Llyn Tegid and its range of watersports and further angling opportunities. Be sure to explore more of Snowdonia, with its whitewater rafting, walking and climbing, cave explorations and picturesque towns and villages in abundance! Treat your loved ones to a stay at the lovely Ty Fy Hen Nain.

The attractive North Wales market town of Corwen is located in the Clwydian Mountains and Dee Valley aonb, at the confluence of five river basins. A picturesque town with a variety of local facilities such as traditional butchers, greengrocers, and bakers, as well as bars, cafés, and restaurants, along with a recreation facility, trim path, and children's play area. Corwen has everything you need to explore this beautiful location.
