My wife and I were looking forward to this trip, with all the positive reviews over many platforms, our expectations were high. However after some debate between us, we feel the need to be honest in our review of our trip. The track leading up to property is very long and not at all suitable for any low wheelbase car. I would personally only advise a 4x4. When you do arrive Robins realm is set in a stunning, isolated and peaceful Welsh valley. There is plenty of nature and stunning woodland all around. You can watch bats whizz past whilst listening to foxes and owls from the hot tub. Or sit and watch the kites all day, or better yet have cuddles with Cous Cous. The thatched cottage we stayed in from the outside looks amazing, but the other buildings and the collection of scrap, burnt out van and broken van, spoil the surroundings. The cottaged itself isn’t fenced and only suitable for well controlled dogs. When we first arrived it looked as if the last guest had only just left. There was washing up still on the draining board and underwear in the bedroom drawers. The floor was upswept, the kitchen sides dirty, the oven and fridge in a very unclean and smelly condition, with alive and long dead wood lice on the gas hob. We actually thought we had come on the wrong day. There was no welcome pack as described and the bed was unmade. Unable to find bedding I contacted Robin to be told he had only half cleaned the place as he got last minute tickets to something in London. I was told to find the bedding in the main house as it had been washed. Which it was along with towels and his underwear in a wash basket. The water pressure was very low only a dribble with the toilet taking many hours to fill between flushes. After trying to use the big cast iron bath to shower in, we found that there wasn’t even enough water to rinse shampoo out with let alone fill the bath. We were asked to use water sparingly, which is fair enough, it was a drought and the spring was low so this is understandable. However, with no shower or a bath in such warm weather where you needed it proved very difficult to feel clean. We were then asked to turn the hot water off to save the boiler breaking. A lot is needed to make the cottage really standout for the premium price. New couches not covered in cat hairs, a broken smoke alarm to fix, hot tub control panel to fix, utensils that can be cleaned in the kitchen, and a general deep clean to spruce the place up again is highly needed. This has been a huge shame as the cottage itself is in a beautiful location and it deserves better. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but I feel the need to be honest for future guests.

No question this is the best place for a remote get away in Wales. Quiet location, to tub and stars are a perfect combination and Robin is an excellent host who will even cook for you! I would stay again in a heartbeat.
