About this property

Windygates holiday cottage is right on the main beach at Rhosneigr, commanding the most fabulous sea view across the bay to Rhoscolyn, Cymyran and round to the boat pool. On the west coast of Anglesey, this is a blissful location for guests of any age - whether you want to build a sand castle, get out on the water, or just wander around the shared garden and soak up the view.

"Dear Windygates, everyone just loves it. Right on the beach, the perfect seaside location, the house is comfy, welcoming, simple and lovely. Just relax and pop out for a morning dip!"

Simply furnished, all on one level, Windygates offers simple, cheerful beach accommodation. It is a delightful holiday cottage at any time of year - in winter, the open fire is lovely to come home to after a blustery walk on the beach; curl up with a cuppa and some toasted crumpets!

The popular seaside village of Rhosneigr is situated on the beautiful west coast of Anglesey, famous for its spectacular cliffs and magnificent sandy beaches. The village has a varied history including a 6th century church, tales of smugglers, famous off-shore shipwrecks and from the Edwardian era it has been a fashionable holiday destination. Today it is known for its magnificent beaches and renowned watersports, providing some of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing in the UK, with tuition available in the village. Activities include fishing, sailing, sand yachting, wreck diving, golf and hours of family fun on the enormous sandy beaches. There are several pubs, restaurants and shops in the village, with the market towns of Llangefni and Holyhead (starting point for day trips to Dublin), and the city of Bangor within easy travelling distance. Close by is the Anglesey Race Circuit, great for lovers or car and motorbike racing, while on the island you will find Pili Palas Butterfly Farm, Anglesey Sea Zoo and Beaumaris Castle. Boat trips around Puffin Island offer the chance to see nesting puffins and guillemots, or cross to the mainland and enjoy Victorian Llandudno’s shopping, restaurants and dry ski slope, Snowdonia mountains and the beaches of the Llyn Peninsula.

The location is great, However the flat is in need of a major refurb plus the kitchen is in the entrance way very cramped & narrow and the shower plus toilet is in a 'cupboard' & the sink is in the end of the corridor!!! The sink in the 'bathroom' and the kitchen did not get hot water for ages - I never managed to get hot water in the bathroom sink in the whole week. They both, as they are, need a seperate under sink hot water supply. But really the dinning area should be made into a proper bathroom and possibly kitchen. I would suggest the cost for a week in November is 40% more tha it is worth. The property could be amazing if modified & refurbed to a good standard. I wouild not return in the current condition even though I loved the beach etc.....

We booked for proximity to the beach and it was perfect for that. We were happy with the quirkiness of the property as it was expected after reading the listing and feedback. If I was to suggest a few small improvements then I'd suggest an electric blanket as the front bedroom is chilly (we prefer not to put the heating on, which we understand is a personal preference) so this would help, as would a larger sized duvet on the bed (there was a king sized duvet but it was in a double cover). Big changes I'd love a king sized bed as a double is a tight squeeze when your husband is 6'4"m ;-) Overall it's a lovely property in a stunning location and I wouldn't hesitate in returning. Really loved our stay and are very grateful that you share this property with others - we're coming back next year! PS. You need a new visitors book, it's full.

As an older house it has the potential to be cold but the night storage heating worked well keeping us warm. Light the open fire on three nights but more for effect than warmth. Furnishings are in character with the property which makes Windygates the character property that it is. Yes it has its imperfections but that’s what we love.
