About this property

Stornoway 4.6 miles. Surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches and rugged countryside, Peninsula Cottage overlooks a beautiful local beach. Nestled into the coastline of Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, this amazingly refurbished property offers the perfect getaway for a family or group of adults. Greeted by the fresh sea breeze, you will find yourself outside this beautifully renovated cottage, noticing how huge windows and clean white paint bring a contemporary touch to the cottage. Park your car in the convenient off-road parking or garage, and unpack easily, utilising the storage provided in the garage for your belongings.

Enter into a delightful open-plan living space, where black and white furniture contrast beautifully with the fresh wooden floors, and you are drawn to the huge sliding windows facing out to sea and promising a morning coffee in the great outdoors, a relaxing electric fire-look stove will warm your feet after a long day as you recline in the leather sofas, feeling the softness of a tasteful grey rug under your feet, before a heart-warming meal is served at the dining table with a view to the setting sun, you can even use the scope provided to watch wildlife whilst the designated chef makes the most of the fully furnished kitchen, sporting stylish fittings and a more casual sitting area perfect for coffee and cake. There are two rooms available, a super-king-size with a zip link that can be set up as a twin room, sporting pleasant purple furnishings as well as a quirky striped carpet, half wood and half painted feature wall and a view to the scenery outside, whilst the second room, a king-size, is decorated with a relaxing hint of blue, reminding you how close to the sea you are, with ample storage via attractive wooden furniture and Hebridean tweed sourced locally and bringing with it a connection to the island and its heritage. When in need of a shower or a soak in the bath, head over to the family bathroom, where you will find all of the necessary home comforts. Outside, you will be delighted to find a beautiful garden area with decking and a bench perfect for lunch in the sun, sun loungers to bask in the calming rays, and an amazing hot tub just waiting to tempt you with a feel of opulence and relaxation, or you can use the bikes provided to take a trek across the wonderful cycle paths of the area. Positioned in Stornoway, the largest of the settlements on the Isle of Lewis, you will be met with a variety of local beaches just a short walk away, where you can picnic, kayak or even try out wild swimming and, further from the property, you may even see seals basking in the harbour. At Stornoway, you will find the stunning Lewis Castle and grounds, boat trips across to the mainland and day trips to St Kilda where you can visit nearby islands and the abundance of wildlife that they have to offer, as well as shops, pubs and cafes to keep you fuelled for a day of adventures. From this convenient location you will also be able to travel to fascinating historical sites such as Calanais Standing Stones and visit local museums and local produce stores such as Tweed makers. A beautiful property surrounded by excellent locations and activities, you are bound to fall in love with the Outer Hebrides with a stay at Peninsula Cottage. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway.

Stornoway is the only town in the Outer Hebrides and is a bustling and growing area with a busy working harbour, a great selection of shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed, leisure facilities and wonderful award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food of the highest quality. Lewis is a place where the lilting Gaelic language is spoken everywhere! Visitors to the town will find plenty to keep them occupied, the magnificent Lews Castle Grounds and the iconic Lews Castle, many good museums and art galleries and also a smart golf course and clubhouse. The large, quiet sandy beaches are close by and provide visitors with wonderful views and the town itself forms a great base for a holiday exploring the unique islands that form the Outer Hebrides. On the north west side of Lewis you can visit the village of Arnol with its Blackhouse Museum, an unmissable visit for anyone wanting to understand the way of life that was once widespread in Lewis. Carloway Broch is nearby and is another fascinating landmark and incredibly well preserved. The Callanish Stones from the Neolithic are also well worth visiting. The whalebone arch and numerous Iron Age dwellings on stunning Bosta beach make for great days out. The friendliness of the local people will astound visitors to the islands and you cannot fail to be impressed with the genteel and contented pace of life you will encounter here.

The location and views are excellent and the home immaculate and well appointed with everything we needed. The owners were welcoming and responsive, which was appreciated. There was a glitch with the fireplace and the owners stopped by to try and correct it. I appreciated and enjoyed the beautiful eggs - and the milk that were in the refrigerator when we arrived and that the hot tub was hot. I love a hot hot tub. The only thing I might have changed is that the mattress was a bit firm for me. I prefer a softer mattress to sleep on.
