Multiple reviews mention the house as clean and well maintained, with no negative comments regarding cleanliness.

The location is repeatedly described as beautiful, peaceful, and scenic, with guests appreciating the remoteness and views. The only caution is the distance from shops and amenities, but this is generally seen as a positive for those seeking a quiet getaway.

Guests found the house spacious, comfortable, and well heated, with only a minor comment about the size of one bed for taller guests. Overall, comfort is highly rated.

The house is described as well equipped and well appointed. There were isolated issues with Wi-Fi and central heating due to external circumstances, but alternative heating was provided and guests still felt well cared for.

Please note: This property has a security deposit of £200.. The Nicolson House is situated in the small village of Lemreway in South Lewis. It’s a traditional croft house set within a village where crofting life is still widely practiced.

Considered by many to be the most beautiful village on the island, you’ll immediately agree when you come over the brow of the hill and see Lemreway for the first time. From the house, you look out to sea beyond the island of Eilean Liubhaird (where Bonnie Prince Charlie hid in early May 1746 after fleeing Culloden), and you can easily spot the Shiant Islands, the Isle of Skye and the mainland. There’s so much to see on Lewis and Harris that you’ll want to be out and about almost every day. Things not to miss are the Callanish Standing Stones, Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, Uig Bay, the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, Stornoway, the Harris hills and famous white sandy beaches.

With all the adventures you’ll no doubt enjoy, you will be looking forward to returning to Lemreway and the comfort of The Nicolson House. It has been designed and renovated in 2021 to offer fantastic accommodation for a family or group of friends.

Entering the house, you have a choice of two front doors. The furthest door to the left is most convenient because you enter into the kitchen/dining/utility room. Also on the ground floor, in the heart of the home is a cosy yet spacious sitting room with an open fire, electric wood burner, TV and selection of books. There’s a double bedroom and the family bathroom on the ground floor too. On the first floor there are two twin bedrooms. And all three bedrooms have armchairs and views out across the village, the harbour and out to sea.

There’s a separate steep staircase to the sitting room above the kitchen/dining/utility room. It’s a great space and has a perfectly positioned writing desk by the window to take in the view. There is also an double sofa bed (for flexible sleeping arrangements).

Outside there’s an enclosed garden with a sauna for guests to use after longs days out exploring, or simply just after days relaxing, reading in the house.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Nicholson house and would recommend it for anyone wishing to get away from it all. Ravens point is about 7 miles from the property and is the only place you can get limited shopping. The people working there are great and are very helpful. The house is very nice and offers 3 good bedrooms. Unfortunately the Wi-Fi didn’t work and due to external circumstances beyond the owners control we could not use the central heating on cold nights. However we were provided with a bag of coal. The views are spectacular and there are wild deer coming into the garden along with many sheep. The owner of the property was very helpful and strives to maintain high standards for his guests. Karen Cameron who greeted us was lovely and went out of her way to help us and make us comfortable. The welcome basket was very kind and much appreciated.

A lovely house in an incredible location. It's a long way from anywhere, including shops and amenities, so make sure you're prepared with plenty of supplies, but such a beautiful and peaceful location.

We love our stay in the Nicholson House. It has a lovely view and is a traditional family house with plenty of space. We enjoyed exploring the east side of Lewis, and there is interesting local history. We felt looked after personally by both the host and the Cottages website, with helpful notes for arrival from the website and from the host a willingnes to spend time in advance discusing the area and things to see. We loved its remotenes. The views over the Shiants were spectacular and nearby coastline had dramatic views and bays to explore.
