About this property

Daliburgh 1.7 miles. Peeking through the hillside of Askernish, near Daliburgh, Scotland, a beautiful hidden gem emerges into sight, overlooking stunning waterscapes, Hebridean Earth House is truly a stunning property, nestling below ground and with a beautiful glass front greeting you on arrival. Perfect for honeymooners and couples looking for a taste of the wilderness of the Highlands, this property offers both a secluded spot amongst the landscape and opulence within such a wonderfully decorated space. Marvelling at the beauty of the glass front of the property, you will not be disappointed by what awaits you inside. With a Polar Wall construction, a delightful warmth encompasses the inside, and you will be surprised to see how light this property is, despite being underground, and this is achieved through solar tubes bringing light from the surface above. Once you are inside you will be met with a welcome hamper to make your stay feel extra special! A perfect sitting room offers you a place to recline, and you will simply adore the white painted walls and how they contrast perfectly with the leather furniture, wooden flooring, artwork and of course the beautiful wooden roof, a feature seen in many traditional cottages throughout the Highlands, and the glass front of the building allows you to relax before the calming plasma fire whilst still enjoying the spectacular views that this property has to offer. With such tasteful décor, it is no wonder that the kitchen offers the same opulence in a small but perfectly fitted space, where all of the home comforts needed to cook up a storm are available for use, and the marble look work surface and green wooden furniture add a mixture of traditional and contemporary design, finished off by a magnificent giant clock. Enjoying a window to the outside world and a gently sloping ceiling, the snug dining area offers seating for four, the perfect place to try out local cuisine cooked in the splendid kitchen. When the evening draws to a close, find yourself snuggled up in the airy double bedroom, with a fresh feel to the décor as well as wooden furniture and a delightful blossom-shaped wall lamp, and if you wish to freshen up before beginning your Highland adventure, enjoy a shower in the amply fitted modern bathroom, using the bathrobes provided. With a stunning view of a loch and an insight into the flourishing nature of the island, you are bound to be using the outdoor sitting area as often as you can, with breath-taking views and a feel of wilderness and remoteness enveloping you as you enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple, watching the sunny sky become strewn with stars as the sun goes down and you may even be able to see the Northern Lights. Right next to the house, you will also experience some of the stunning wildlife of the area, including otters and cuckoos, as well as the beautiful machair flowers that sprinkle the island in colour from May to August. The Isle of South Uist is one where historical sites come in abundance, due to such a rich heritage and culture throughout the islands, and so there are plenty of opportunities to explore local sites such as Ormaclait Castle and An Carra Standing Stone, as well as the local Kildonan Museum. The local area also offers great walks, for example through Arinaban woodland, sandy beaches for watersports and wild swimming, and Askernish Golf Course! The nearby town of Daliburgh is where you will be able to stock up on supplies at the local store or grab a bite to eat at one of the pubs, cafes and restaurants, before heading off to explore the stunning coastline of the island. An amazing property in a simply breath-taking location, Hebridean Earth House is bound to make an unforgettable stay at the Isle of South Uist. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Lochmaddy, or Oban to Lochboisdale.

Daliburgh is a town on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides and is known for being a crofting town. There is a memorial here to commemorate the life and works of Donald Allan MacDonald, a Gaelic poet who lived in Daliburgh in the mid 20th century. It is a great base from which to explore a fantastic selection of activities from fishing and walking to diving and birdwatching. The nearby Askernish Golf Course is always popular and was originally designed by ‘Old’ Tom Morris and is popular with golfers keen to test themselves on this challenging course. Dining options include fish and chips from the Burnside Chip Shop or for something a little more fancy dine in at the Borrodale Hotel. While you are in Daliburgh you can stock up on supplies at the supermarket and there is also a number of other shops including gifts shops. A short distance from Daliburgh is the fascinating Kildonan Museum and the birthplace of Flora MacDonald as well as a host of fabulous beaches just waiting to be discovered.

The accommodation was excellent and had everything we required. The house is warm and bright with a lovely view. We obtained a fishing permit for the loch and caught lovely brown trout for dinner one evening. I managed a swim in the loch which was delightful and especially nice being able to sit outside afterwards enjoying the view with a hot drink. Sarah Jane is a fantastic host and very friendly and knowledgeable. She answered all our queries promptly and helped make our stay memorable. We plan to return.

    Loved it!

Sarah Jane was very welcoming on arrival and equally so on departure when we thought we were going to have to stay on Uist a bit longer due to ferry cancellations. Highly recommend and thank you.
