About this property

Balallan 1.2 miles. Enjoying a wonderfully peaceful setting in South Lochs on the Isle of Lewis is this charming single-storey holiday lodge, Ceann an Loch Cottage. Perfect for families and couples travelling together, the cottage is presented to an extremely high standard. It might look attractively rustic from the outside but on the inside, it offers all the home comforts any discerning traveller would want. The light and airy open-plan living space sets the tone for the rest of the property with an inviting sitting area forming the focal point of the room. The seating is arranged to maximise the beautiful views from the cottage outside and a woodburning stove creates an attractive centrepiece to the space, perfect for curling up and warming up after a day of adventures. If it’s a warm evening then you can throw open the French doors and recline on the decking area and soak up the views while enjoying your favourite tipple. Or why not fire up the barbecue and enjoy dinner alfresco? The decking is also the best place to watch the sun come up over Loch Erisort or watch it set behind the Harris hills and if you keep an eye out, you might even get to see some wild deer meandering over the fields. The extensive fully-fitted kitchen is the ideal place for cooking up a storm and while the chef prepares a sumptuous meal you can keep them company at the breakfast bar. Step out of the kitchen into the welcoming dining area which is again positioned to make the most of the stunning views out of the window. The beauty of the accommodation being all on one level means there isn’t far to stagger to bed and both super king-size bedrooms have their own en-suite wet rooms and there is a family bathroom which even has a wall-mounted TV so you needn’t miss your favourite telly while you’re having a soak! Ceann an Loch cottage is the perfect base for exploring the delights of the Isle of Lewis and there are activities to suit everyone’s age, budget and taste. Look out for otters on Loch Erisort or go for a refreshing hike whilst taking in the sublime panoramic views. A short drive away is the bustling town of Tarbert, home of Harris Tweed and a number of popular eateries with plenty of wild beach walks, watersports and even the North Harris Eagle Observatory, all not far from here. Stornoway is also only a short distance by car and is a great base from which to explore neighbouring islands and is the gateway to discovering even more of the wonders of the Outer Hebrides. For a holiday to remember, Ceann an Loch Cottage ticks all the boxes. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway.

Balallan meaning Allan's Town, is a crofting township on Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. Balallan is within the parish of Lochs. The township is the longest village, being four miles in Lewis, and also in northern Scotland. Straggled along the head of a long sea loch between Arivruach and Laxay, it formed due to a mixture of crofting along the loch shore and fishing. It sits at the head of Loch Erisort. Whether you are visiting the island to see the varied wildlife, the numerous historic sites, or just to get away from it all, you will never be far from scenic surroundings. Beautiful, remote and peaceful, the views are right on your doorstep. Also known as the Outer Hebrides, the Western Isles form a 130 miles arc running from north to south off the north-western coast of Scotland. Taken from north to south they include Lewis, North and South Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra.

. The photos don’t do it justice. One of the loveliest places I’ve ever stayed. Julia and Donnie were fantastic hosts. Available if needed and left a wonderful welcome pack. The house is perfectly placed for exploring all of Lewis and Harris due to its central position on the Island. Fabulous sunrises over the loch every morning. Beds so comfortable for a rested nights sleep. Just fantastic. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit Lewis and Harris.

Perfect house in a perfect location. Even the weather was pretty good! I also like dealing with LHH, always efficient and good communicators. Thanks to all.

It is luxury accomodation with every amenity you could think of and in a superb location especially for access to Harris. There was a very generous welcome pack so you would be fine if you had no chance to pick up groceries before arrival. It is worth getting up early to see the sunrise over the loch. Hope we will get a chance to return again sometime. Joanne
