About this property

Ghillie’s Cottage is an exceptional lodge resting on the banks of the River Lochay in Killin, Stirling, complete with off-road parking, a private hot tub, and a woodburning stove. Set across a single storey, this thoughtfully arranged retreat welcomes four guests and combines traditional character with a riverside setting that shapes the entire stay. Step inside and the open-plan living space unfolds with light coming through doors that open directly onto the decking, drawing the river into view from the moment you arrive. The kitchen and dining area sit neatly within this space, creating an easy flow for preparing meals and gathering together, while the sitting area is anchored by a woodburning stove, offering a focal point as the evening settles in.

Underfloor heating runs throughout, adding to the sense of warmth beneath your feet. Two bedrooms sit just beyond the main space, each with its own en-suite. The king-size room features a roll-top bath alongside a separate shower, while the twin room is served by its own walk-in shower. Each bedroom maintains a sense of privacy, making the layout well-suited to couples travelling together or small families. Outside, the decking stretches alongside the river, where seating invites you to pause and take in the changing light across the water. The hot tub is positioned to enjoy this outlook, offering a different perspective throughout the day as the river continues to flow past.

From the cottage, Killin lies within walking distance, where the Falls of Dochart provide a striking natural landmark as water rushes over a series of rock formations in the heart of the village. Loch Tay extends beyond, offering scenic walks along its shoreline and opportunities to explore the wider landscape. Head to Aberfeldy to visit The Birks of Aberfeldy, where woodland paths wind through steep-sided gorge scenery, or step into Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery to learn more about the area’s whisky heritage. For those drawn further afield, Ben Lawers offers walking routes through one of Scotland’s most recognisable mountain landscapes, with views stretching across Perthshire.

Ghillie’s Cottage offers a memorable base for discovering this part of Stirling. Note: This property can be booked with refs. 1204780, 1192286, 1204781, 1192287, 1192288, 1192289, 1204782, 1204783, 1204785, 1204786, and 1204787, together sleeping up to 36 guests.

The village of Killin, on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, in the area of Breadalbane, sits across the stunning Falls of Dochart and has been settled since ancient times. Cup markings on rocks and stone circles tell of an ancient race that inhabited this area. Christianity came to Breadalbane in the 8th century with St Fillan with the Mill bearing his name and St Fillan’s Day held on the 3rd Tuesday in January. The village is strongly associated with two renowned clans, Clan Campbell and Clan MacNab. Finlarig Castle, to the north of the village, was the Campbell stronghold and the MacNabs have their ancient burial ground of Inchbuie near the bridge over the falls. Killin today is a popular tourist destination, due in no small part to the use of the falls in various films and television programmes. The village today has a varied selection of shops, bars and restaurants and watersports are available on nearby Loch Tay. Ideal for walking, Killin has Ben Lawers, the highest of the surrounding Bens, to the north and Ben More and Stobinian to the west.
