Guests say

Craigdarroch Cottage is praised for its beautiful location, cosy atmosphere, and comfortable beds, making it a great base for exploring the local area. Guests appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and warm welcome, with some thoughtful touches noted. However, several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, damp, and maintenance, as well as road noise from the nearby main road. While some guests found the cottage spotless and inviting, others felt it needed more attention to cleaning and upkeep. Overall, the cottage offers a charming stay with room for improvement in certain areas.

Reviews are mixed, with some guests describing the cottage as immaculately clean, while others report issues such as mould, damp smells, cobwebs, and dirty kitchenware. Several guests felt the property needed a thorough clean and redecorating.

The cottage is set in a beautiful area, ideal for walking and cycling, and close to local amenities. However, the proximity to a busy main road is frequently mentioned, with road noise affecting sleep for some guests.

Guests found the cottage warm, cosy, and the beds comfortable. However, issues such as damp, low ceilings, and draughts were noted, and some found the overall comfort affected by maintenance problems.

The kitchen is generally well-equipped and there are useful amenities like firewood and cleaning supplies. However, maintenance issues such as loose carpets, broken furniture, and lack of garden access were reported by several guests.

Some guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as festive decorations, a box of Celebrations, and an honesty box for firewood. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The photo shown has obviously been taken several years ago. To say the property is tired is an understatement, it is sorely neglected. There is no gutter at the front & naturally the downpipe is missing. There is a smell of dampness. A dehumidifier is constantly running - I emptied it 3 times in a week (approx 1 gallon each time). The carpet at lounge to kitchen covers a slope and I nearly fell before I was aware. The carpet is loose. The garden bench/ table is nothing like the photo. There is a tree growing at the front (right side) which partly obscures the bedroom window and a cable hanging off the wall. There are no PAT labels on any electrical appliance.

Upon arrival we were greeted with an overpowering smell of damp. There were cobwebs all over the place and not just a few small ones but loads of them and some quite big so it was obvious the place had not been properly cleaned before our arrival. The drawers in the freezer were dirty with the remnants of other peoples food. The pans were dirty with residue of food on them. The bed had five, 1 1/2 to 2 inch grey hairs in it.The path at the back door was overgrown and needed clearing back. The double bed in the main bedroom had a broken slat. The enclosed garden that was requested on the website when booking was not enclosed. It was accessed by a communal path that lead down to the main road. This cottage is advertised as pet friendly but I would argue that is not the case when they even ask you not to exercise your pet in the garden. The carpet is a dangerous trip hazard leading into the Kitchen from the back of the lounge. And to top it all the back door would not lock!Overall the location was perfect but the cottage was a disappointment. The towels and bed linen smelt clean and fresh so it was a shame about the hairs in the bed.

Not as advertised. Smelly, not clean, we had to clean the bathroom before we could use it. The toilet seat was loose. the steps to the garden very dangerous. No river views. Cupboard doors loose. Handles on drawers in the bedroom dropping off. Bedroom doors are a joke. Crouch to get in and out. AND they asked me to strip the beds!! (The advertisement had housekeeping included) We left a week early cleaner than when we arrived. Lost one weeks fees. The smell needs to be addressed.
