A splendid flagged hallway sets the tone for the rest of the house and there are more rooms than you can shake a stick at including an elegant sitting room with loads of stylish seating and tasteful soft furnishings centred around an impressive open fire and with feature windows offering delightful views over the gardens and beyond.

For the younger ones in the party they might want to spend time in the games room where there is a table tennis table, a pool table, table football and even a Play Station and a Nintendo Wii. This gives the grown-ups time to relax together whether it’s checking out the wine cellar or chilling out in front of the fire in the sitting room or snug. For the designated chef you can’t fail to be impressed by the wonderfully appointed, fully equipped breakfast kitchen which has all the facilities you could possibly need to whip up a feast for your holiday party.

Leading off from here there is a warm and welcoming family room where guests can spend time together as they wait for dinner to be prepared. Dinner can be served in the formal dining room which seats 16 and offers a truly atmospheric space. If the weather allows then why not take the party outdoors? Visit the market town of Kelso which boasts a fantastic racecourse and an attractive cobbled town square and loads of interesting shops, pubs and restaurants. Close to Kelso there are a number of fascinating castles and historic houses such as Mellerstain House, Kelso Abbey, Cessford Castle, Roxburgh Castle and Ferniehirst Castle.

Practice your swing at Roxburghe Golf Course, head to the quaint town of Jedburgh or you can easily manage a day trip to Edinburgh from Gateshaw House. Wherever you end up, having Gateshaw House as your base will help to make forever holiday memories.

This quaint little village rests peacefully in the Scottish Borders and north of the Northumberland National Park. Morebattle provides a butchers, a village shop and a hotel serving fine ales and food. The 62-mile long St. Cuthbert's Way footpath passes through the village. Nearby, a wider range of amenities can be found at the two charming towns of Kelso and Coldstream, the former dominated by its dramatic abbey ruins whilst Coldstream has its own museum. A trip further afield can bring you to Northumberland's most popular places including Berwick-upon-Tweed, Bamburgh and Alnwick. The bustling shopping city of Newcaslte is also within driving distance.
