About this property

Nestled in the centre of Kelso, a charming town in the Scottish Borders, is this single-storey annexe, Abbeyside Cottage. Located in the grounds of the abbey, and within walking distance to local amenities, the River Tweed, and the town’s historical landmarks, the annexe is the perfect base for a couple, looking for a romantic and immersive break. Parking your vehicle in either the off-road area or within the public car park, with an EV charging point, head towards the inviting annexe, and into the homely hallway. Starting off in the open-plan living space, with dual aspect patio doors, offering views out to the private gardens, prepare a romantic meal, dine as a couple, relax in front of the Sky TV, and simply enjoy some quality time before an itinerary of adventure. You’ll find all of the essential appliances, along with a utility room with a freezer and washing machine, helping you keep on top of your laundry whilst staying at Abbeyside Cottage. To the exterior, select from two private patio areas, both tranquil and secluded, where you can dine alfresco, share a bottle of wine, and appreciate your location in Kelso. As dusk sets in, head to the bedroom boasting a double bed, a TV, and an en-suite shower room, offering the ideal retreat to relax, unwind and prepare for your upcoming plans. Beyond Abbeyside Cottage you’ll find an array of dine-out options, including Lemon and Thyme for an evening meal, and The Hoot ‘n Cat for a slice of cake and coffee, whilst the essentials can be purchased at the local Co-op. Roxburgh Castle, Floors Castle and Brigend Park are all within proximity, where you can learn about the history of the surrounding area, take a relaxing stroll, or even fish upon the Junction Pool. Towards the town of Jedburgh, you’ll find additional attractions to enjoy, including tours around Ferniehirst Castle, excursions around Jedburgh Castle Jail & Museum, displaying 19th-century prison life, and visits to Jedburgh Abbey remains, gardens and visitor centre. For avid walkers, Humbleton Hillfort, Maelmin Henge and Trail, and St Cuthbert’s Cave are must-see hotspots, offering picture perfect views of nearby hills, woodland trails, and sandstone rocks. For an adventure-filled trip, choose Abbeyside Cottage within the Scottish Borders.

Kelso is a delightful peaceful Borders town situated at the confluence of the Tweed and Teviot rivers, with a cobbled town square and streets, an array of stunning Georgian buildings, and a wealth of beautiful landscape surrounding it. Take some time to explore Floors Castle, a well-known stately home with restaurants and gardens that was created by William Adam. Mellerstain House, Kelso Abbey, and the Kelso races are also nearby. Mellerstain House is a magnificent example of Georgian architecture. It is the home of the 13th Earl of Haddington and was designed by architect William Adam and his son Robert in 1725. Smailholm Tower, Sir Walter Scott's ancestral home, is within walking distance of the mansion, which is set in 80 acres of lush rolling parkland.

Roomy and very comfortable and quiet, in a great location close to the river and town but you wouldn't know you were near either. Good to have Sky Sports and excellent WiFi. Host very pleasant. Thank you.

The garden view is gorgeous, even on a rainy day. The cottage is very conviniently located within in short walking distance to supermarkets and the garden center as well as the Abbey. Parking on Knowes wasn't a problem. Perfect spot to relax and explore the Borders.
