'Acreknowe Cottage' is a rural accommodation, dark skies, beautiful country views, peace and quiet. Lots of birds and wildlife to be seen. Lovely walks are accessible directly from the cottage. The bungalow is filled with light, is attractively furnished, comfortable and has the benefit of dishwasher and washing machine. The host is local, personable and is close to hand if needed.The local town of Hawick has a lovely park and town museum. There is another museum in the town telling of a local artist and the textile history of the town, with a good gift shop. The town has some friendly hostelries for those who like a pub, and cafes and restaurants for meals out. Several supermarkets are close to hand. Hawick is a visually attractive town and local people are friendly.

We had a lovely week based at Acreknowe.Fantastic view from front of cottage to the hills with horses in the nearby field,Caught a glimpse from the window each evening of the bats flying.Hawick a lovely town to explore as are other nearby towns. We visited, Selkirk, Melrose and Kelso.Beautiful countryside all around.Sandra was very welcoming and friendly and also provided a bowl of fruit, local baked goods and a vase of flowers for our arrival.Last section of track to the cottage is rather uneven which may deter people with low sprung vehicles.A few things the owners may not be aware of and did not detract from our holiday1. The floor transmission strip at the bathroom doorway needs securely fixing as it spring up through 90 degrees on contact with foot and potentially dangerous2. Room heaters difficult to use as digital display settings degrading3. TV loses colour after about 1 hr with people turn blue, however we did not come away to watch TV

Stayed for 10 nights in August. The cottage was very nicely laid out, very clean and with plenty of home comforts (dishwasher, coffee machine, air fryer etc). Lots of privacy, with great views. Arrived to find a nice welcome package of cake and biscuits waiting for us, and even treats for our pet cat that we brought with us which was a very nice touch (especially since many cottages that are advertised as pet friendly don't actually count cats in that bracket!).Nearby Hawick offered plenty of decent shopping locations. Would definitely return.
