Fir Cottage is a unique luxury retreat in the Scottish Borders offering an exceptional level of hospitality and sustainability. This very special cottage is situated on a croft near Hawick and provides great access to the stunning nearby countryside. The surrounding area is perfect for hiking and wild swimming and you're left free to discover on your own. You'll be amazed by the serene location of the cottage and the number of birds surrounding the little pond. With local wildlife including roe deer roaming nearby, you'll really feel at one with nature. You even have your own private decked area where you can enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset.

The space

Arriving at Fir Cottage you really understand what an impressive undertaking this was for the owners to build. Walking into the open plan living area and kitchen you really get a feel for how spacious the cottage is and the floor to ceiling windows flood the sitting room with light. Up the stairs to the mezzanine level you're greeted by a gigantic bed which you can sink into after a long day exploring the local area. The property is child-friendly and downstairs there are two bunk beds next to the bathroom. The cottage is perfect for couples looking to get away from it all, for that special honeymoon, as well as families that are keen to explore the beautiful countryside of the Scottish Borders.

Guest access

The property is all yours for the entire stay and has its own private garden and pond (children will need to be supervised). Guests will be met on arrival by the owners.

Sustainability

The owners have previously won awards for their efforts in sustainable tourism and have focused on every little detail in order to reduce the carbon footprint of your stay.

A lot of thought has been put into how the cottage was originally constructed, including using sustainable materials such as local Douglas Fir and local Larch for the cladding. Energy efficiency is paramount and the heating and electrics are powered by solar panels on the owners' property nearby. The heated floors and room sealed log burner also mean you're always kept cosy in the most eco-friendly way.

The owners have ethically sourced furniture as well as using vintage crockery and recycling bins are provided as standard. The owners also allow free use of two electric bikes that are perfect for exploring the local countryside and certainly help when navigating some of the more challenging hills. These are kept in a newly built lockable bike shed with electric sockets and hose in the event you bring your own.

The owners provide as many logs as you need for the stove, fire pit and barbecue.

We encourage you to offset the carbon emissions from your trip so please get in touch with our Guest Services team and we can arrange this for a small fee.Thinking about a car free holiday you can get a free pick up from Tweedbank the last stop on the new Waverly line in less than ah hour from Edinburgh and use of electric bikes during your stay.

Extras

The owners provide homemade scones, bread, jam and marmalade and leave a bottle of wine for you to enjoy. You can also buy eggs from them as well as fresh seasonal produce from their polytunnel and croft and offer simple delicious meals for your first evening and subsequent evenings. These are for a small charge and include house favourites beef stew and sticky toffee pudding.

Dogs are welcome at an extra charge, providing they are not allowed in the bedroom or on the furniture and are kept in a closed cage or in the porch at night.

Use of the two electric bikes is free of charge and the owners provide a free pick up from Tweedbank station (less than an hour from Edinburgh) and Hawick which is a 30 minute bus from Carlisle if you’re travelling by train.

Deposit: Bookings are subject to a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the booking value plus applicable booking fees.

Book with confidence: If your booking is affected by new Government travel restrictions which were not known at the time of booking, and you're legally unable to travel, we will arrange with the property owner to refund 100% of your holiday cost.

Security Deposit: A security deposit of £150 will be charged prior to check in and returned following your stay.
