Cottage itself was good - not amazing but pretty good. Quiet location, well equipped cottage - need a car as quite a way from the town. No real outside space - there’s grass at the back but all the seating has been discarded and just thrown in the trees to rot (looks a mess)

I can't review this lodge as I didn't see it, despite the fact I was told it was the one I'd booked. I chose this lodge based on the photos as it seemed ideal for my family group of 6, all over the age of 65. In fact, I booked the holiday to celebrate my sister's 65th birthday. When we arrived at check-in at the Atholl Palace, we were given the keys to a completely different lodge, which was nowhere near the one I was expecting to stay in. When Iqueried this, I was told the booking information is just indicative of the standard of accommodation, and you were not guaranteed a specific lodge. Gate Lodge, where we stayed, was next to the main entrance to the hotel and has 3 floors. The top floor was accessed by a steep, narrow staircase which ended at the bedroom door with no landing, which made coming out of the bedroom quite dangerous as you were straight into the staircase. The dining table was in the kitchen and pushed against the wall. In order to accommodate 6 it had to be pulled forward which meant there was little space for getting in and out to access food etc from the kitchen stove/cupboards/worktop. The back door from the kitchen to the small back garden did not open properly and stuck on the floor when only half open. There was a slimline dishwasher which is really only suitable for 2-4 settings so we had to use it more often, therefore used up the limited supply of dishwasher tablets a few days into out stay. The garden was next to a fairly busy road and the main railway line ran above the lodge about 40 metres away. The road immediately in front of the lodge was the main entrance and exit to the hotel and was used as a turning point by lots of traffic, including lorries and motor homes, which meant that sitting in the living room was not exactly relaxing. We spent some time when we arrived trying to connectct to the free wifi only to be told when I called reception that it was not working. It wasn't repaied till the Tuesday - 5 days into our stay. I have stayed in many lodges and cottages throughout Scotland over the last 40-odd years and this is by far the worst equipped in terms of kitchenware, crockery etc. There was no can opener, colander or serving spoons. The fridge was small for 6 people and there was no ice tray. One of the reasons I chose to book a lodge at the Atholl Palace Hotel was because it gave access to their leisure facilities. However, both the jacuzzi and steam room were out of order on the day we went, leaving only the pool available, which was disappointing. As this holiday was a celebration of my sister's birthday, I did not want to spoil the mood by complaining too much, but any time I did go to reception to ask about anything , they gave the impression they were not really interested.
