This 14th-century castle is the perfect retreat for a luxurious gathering with family, where you can relax with your feet up around the wood burner.. Knock Old Castle dates back to the 14th-century and has been fantastically resurrected by the current owner into a truly unique, whimsical, fairytale castle. In what has been a 5 year long project, this detached castle has been lovingly restored. Local craftsmen have utilised their skills, imagination and expertise to make this property into something that will amaze every guest.
From the quirky doors and interior, where no straight lines will be found, to the sauna in the tower, and the painted ceiling in the keep, to the stunning views over the sea from the glass domed lookout, and not forgetting the sheep grazing on the wild flower roof. Old Knock Castle will be sure to exceed every expectation.
The castle is situated on the Ayrshire coast, in a private setting, 200 yards from the owner’s home, with only a short walk from the shore and close to the bustling town of Largs with its shops, restaurants and promenade. This holiday property is ideally located to explore the islands of Cumbrae, Arran and the Isle of Bute. Ferries run to Dunoon and the Cowal Peninsula, giving access to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
Ayrshire offers a varying coastline with villages, beaches and rocky coves to explore, and is an ideal location for cyclists and walkers, with Skelmorlie heralding the start of the Ayrshire Coastal Path, a 100 mile long coastal walk. Inland there is walking, cycling, gardens and castles to visit, riding, fishing, racing and a choice of golf courses, including the world famous open venues of Troon Prestwick and Turnberry.
Culzean Castle Country Park, extending over 550 acres, has a network of wooded trails passing along the beach. Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reached for a day trip, with rail links available from the town. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles..

Knocks castle was quirky warm and a thoughtful architectural inspiration. The bedrooms were comfortable and practical. There were multiple places to relax and socialise. Despite there being no water for our stay on Saturday due to a pipe leak Paul who was our contact brought fresh water and did everything he could to make our stay pleasant.Highly recommend this castle the sauna was beautifully situated so we could watch the sunset.

A totally unique and fantastic renovation of the old castle; the owners have taken great care to ensure that Knock Old Castle is a unique and wonderfully quirky place to stay and relax, with fantastic amenities & views. The detail of the renovation and the recycling of fallen trees is amazing!

Knock Old Castle is a treasure! It is like having a fairytale castle all to yourself! Its restoration has obviously been a labour of love which has resulted in a truly unique and beautiful place to stay. The views are stunning and the outside space is lovely, private and practical for little ones to run around and older ones to relax. We (multi-generational family from 4 months up to quite a bit older - plus dogs) absolutely loved it.
