About this property
Set in an area with abundant wildlife, this characterful property lies on a 200-acre estate with many outdoor activities available.. The Estate properties are set in a quiet and remote location in an Area of Outstanding Beauty off the famous North Coast 500 road. Down the estate road and through the Estate gate, guests will feel ‘away from it all’ and can explore the Estate’s long coastline on to open sea and Loch Eriboll with views to Ben Hope and Ben Loyal. Although feeling remote and unspoilt, Rispond is well positioned for the amenities of Durness 4 miles away where there is a small supermarket, award-winning coffee shop and chocolatier, pop up food wagons, a hotel/bar, fuel and beautiful white sandy beaches protected by rocks and hills. The nearest sandy beach, Ceannabeinne, is stunningly beautiful and a short stroll from the Estate.
The Cottage is stocked with white bed linen, towels and quality hand soaps, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. A welcome pack is provided and Scottish rapeseed oil and pepper/salt are supplied for cooking.
The property itself is an historic stone building with views across the harbour to the hills beyond. It has been thoughtfully arranged with the main living area on the first floor, making most of the views, with a wood burner and deep leather sofas providing a cosy atmosphere. A large sofa can be converted into a double bed whilst on the ground floor a beautifully presented double bedroom with a super king can be converted into two twin beds if desired. The bathroom has a bath and separate shower cubicle.
Rispond is a tranquil place and a haven for wildlife – deer, otters, eagles and abundant bird life are regularly seen with the occasional Atlantic grey seal popping up in the harbour. As well as walking along the coast and Loch Eriboll with beautiful views of Ben Hope and Ben Loyal, kayaking, sailing, fishing and golf are all available right on the doorstep. Sea and brown trout fishing is available on the Estate (no licence required). It is a short drive to Keodale where guests can take the 10 minute seasonal ferry to Cape Wrath, the most north-westerly point in Great Britain.
The nearest beach, just a short stroll from the house is outstanding and is a perfect crescent of white sand bounded by rocks and hills. Beach 600 yards, shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Amazing Although a regular now to Durness this was the first time at Rispond Cottage.The Cottage is in a secluded Bay with everything you would require at your fingertips. It is the perfect base to explore Durness and beyond with outstanding beaches & scenery. Simon & Emma are quick to respond to any questions you might have, and left a lovely starter pack for us.

We stayed at The Cottage 11-25 July. It is remote which is what we wanted with the owners lodge and 2 other holiday let's in a small harboured inlet. The Cottage is slightly up the hill behind the lodge. This obscures the view of the harbour but you still have a nice open feel . The garden is smaller than looks in pictures and now has young trees in it and our 2 flat coated retrievers loved it. For dogs their size it was secure, a smaller inquisitive dog could make his escape. The patio and garden furniture were great. We sat and ate out on the patio most days. At this time of year it has the sun on it all day into the evening and being tucked into the hillock it was very sheltered from the wind. The moorland is great and the views from it are stunning. It is marshy so wellies or waterproof boots would be good to have. We had picnics in the little stoney inlet and by the lochan. There were so many beautiful wild flowers of all colours. I wish I'd had a book at the cottage to look their names up. We saw the leftovers of an otters breakfast in the harbour but unfortunately missed seeing it. We fished in the harbour. Nibbles but no catches but a lovely way to while away the day at high tide.The Cottage was very clean. The bed is huge and very comfy. The shower has good water pressure. The kitchen is well equipped and the fridge and freezer are big enough to hold all the food we took for 2 weeks. The laundry has loads of games and videos in for all ages. Durness Spar was well stocked. We spent most of our time on the estate grounds and at the cottage just enjoying the peace. The welcome pack is lovely but I won't spoil that surprise for you😍This was our perfect holiday for 2 people and their hounds.
