This delightful area of Dumfries and Galloway boasts rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches which benefit from the warmth of the passing Gulf Stream and is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, Home Farm - The Farmhouse offers the ideal base for exploring the area. The locality boasts some pretty little seaside villages like Sandhead and Portpatrick. A must is a visit to the rspb Scotland Mull of Galloway Nature Reserve, Scotland’s most southerly point and where thousands of sea birds nest in the cliff face during the spring and summer. There are beautiful gardens to visit including Glenwhan, which is on your doorstep, and the world-renowned Logan Botanical Gardens at Port Logan. Walking is a delight in this area of southern Scotland whether it be cliff top, beaches, hills or forests. It is also a cyclist’s paradise with the world-famous 7Stanes within easy reach at Kirroughtree. For the golfing enthusiast there are many courses close by including the county course just 2 miles away. Stranraer, which is only 6 miles away, offers a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants. With so much on offer whatever you decide return to Home Farm - The Farmhouse and enjoy a relaxing time in the hot tub. Beach 7 miles. shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.

The location of the property is good for local attractions and sight seeing. It’s also massive and easily accommodated our large group. It was relatively clean as well. What lets it down is the condition of the property. It’s in desperate need of repairs. The Hot tub constantly trips the electrics leaks water and is rarely at a temp that made it useable for the week we stayed at the property it’s also clearly old and worn out. The bath on the first floor had cracks in it (known when it was rented to us but we were not informed when booking) meaning it leaked through the floor dripping into the hall way beneath through the live light fitting. One night we were woken at 02:00 with water dripping onto the bed from a leaking tap in the bath that had leaked through the floor down the light fitting onto the bed soaking it blowing the trip switch turning all the appliances off including the fridge holding all our food. The ovens in the property are borderline useless taking more than double the time to cook anything put in them. The dishwasher has no cap to hold the dishwasher tablet in so you have to just toss it in bottom. There are clear damp patches on the wall. There are numerous other smaller details that overall gave us the impression things are just worn out and old.

We spent a lovely long weekend at The Farmhouse for an extended family get together to celebrate a birthday. The property is very spacious with generous bedrooms, a huge kitchen table for all the family, plenty of bathrooms and lots of social spaces. Unfortunately the weather wasn't in our favour so I cant comment on the hot-tub, but we braved the elements and had some lovely walks with the dogs in the surrounding woodlands, fields and village of Dunragit. The facilities were more than adequate for the twelve of us, multiple ovens and fridges meant we could easily prepare meals and there were a number of takeaways nearby which I would highly recommend too for those times when you'd rather leave the cooking to someone else.All in, we had a lovely break and would definitely consider staying again at the Farmhouse if going en masse, or at one of the smaller properties for a smaller group.Many thanks to Stuart for a great stay!
