South Milton Cottage receives high praise for its beautiful, peaceful location and stunning views, making it an ideal base for exploring Dumfries and Galloway. Guests consistently highlight the spacious, well-equipped interior, comfortable beds, and thoughtful touches. The cottage is described as immaculately clean and perfect for relaxing breaks. While the low ceilings upstairs and remotely controlled heating are noted by some, these are minor compared to the overwhelmingly positive feedback. The property is especially appreciated for its tranquillity, wildlife, and proximity to beaches and local attractions.
The majority of guests describe the cottage as exceptionally clean, with several reviews specifically mentioning immaculate presentation and scrupulous standards. Only one review noted some dog hair, but this was an isolated comment.
The location is frequently described as stunning, peaceful, and ideal for exploring the coast and countryside. Guests appreciate the rural setting, beautiful views, and easy access to local attractions and beaches.
Guests find the cottage very comfortable, with special mention of the beds and spacious living areas. The main negative is the low ceilings upstairs, which some taller guests found challenging, but this did not significantly detract from overall comfort.
The cottage is widely praised for being well-equipped, with a spacious kitchen, utility room, and thoughtful amenities. A few guests mentioned minor issues with heating control and the lack of some consumables, but these were exceptions.
Many guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as a bottle of wine or biscuits on arrival, a welcome folder, and a laid fire. However, as these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay, guests should not expect them as standard.

The small hamlet of Stairhaven, near Glenluce, once famous for smuggling, sits on the east side of Luce Bay in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland. This tranquil spot has an abundance of wildlife and is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Stairhaven is within easy reach of the Galloway Forest, which offers walking and cycling, including the well know 7stanes cycle trail. The forest is also home to the Dark Sky Park, where you can see the night sky in all its glory. There are a number of golf courses close by, including the County 18 hole true links course, which is situated on the shores of Luce Bay. Fishing in the area is first class with opportunities to enjoy both loch and sea fishing, plus the River Luce is popular for salmon and trout fishing. Take a day trip to Belfast from the local ferry port, or stroll along the sandy beaches at Sandhead or Monreith, or simply just sit and read in Wigtown – Scotland’s famous book town. This beautiful part of the country has something for everyone.

Very private, spiral staircase, log fire, floor to ceiling windows. All sundries provide like hand soap, toilet rolls, washing up liquid etc. Private gated parking for three cars. Large kitchen. TV signal bad so couldn't watch normal TV. Low ceilings upstairs as they have build into the attic space. Stunning cottage, very clean would recommend will be going back.

The visitors' book shows that many people have stayed here more than once and I would not hesitate to come back again in the future.
