Minnow Cottage is praised for its idyllic riverside setting and proximity to Newton Stewart, offering a cosy atmosphere and a convenient base for exploring Galloway. Guests appreciate the wood burner and the comfortable bed, though some maintenance issues are noted.
The cottage is generally described as clean and cosy. However, there are comments about the outside area needing attention and weeds, suggesting room for improvement in outdoor cleanliness.
The location is highly regarded for its closeness to the river, town amenities, and scenic walks, making it an excellent base for exploring the local area.
The comfort of the cottage receives mixed reviews. While the bed is noted as comfortable, there are several mentions of it being creaky. The sofas are described as old and uncomfortable by some, indicating that comfort could be enhanced.
Facilities are adequate but several maintenance issues are consistently reported, such as problems with hot water, broken doorsteps, and non-working lights. The presence of a wood burner is appreciated, but the lack of heating in the kitchen and insufficient supplies like toilet paper and logs for the burner are drawbacks.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

Not a good impression on the outside as property needs some attention. Peeling paint is not a good look.A bit dark as natural light poor.Basic stuff like extra loo rolls, kitchen cleaning stuff, black bin bags and decent tea towels should be provided. A casserole dish would not go amiss either.Only one electric heater appeared to be working although there is a woodburner. Im a townie....Im clueless, too fiddly and messy. Location is good as its walking distance from town...most eateries were shut in November!

Lovely little cottage. Very central for access to lots of glorious scenery and walking. Very dog friendly. Cottage does need some attention. Front step is tiled, but all breaking up. Outside light not working. Bed comfortable, but very creaky. Sofa needs attention with extra stuffing required. But I loved it and would visit again. 4stars this time, could be 5 stars with maintenance.

Positives : Loved being so close to the river and to sit at the back watching the river go by. Was greatful to arrive and for the electric heaters to be on and having a supply of logs. We loved the log fire. The shower was lovely and hot. We appreciate how much work has gone into the cottage after the flood and seeing the pictures of it being restored. The guest book was very helpful. Neighbours were friendly and welcoming. Negatives/Improvement’s: This cottage could be 5 stars but attention to detail is missing. Outside front door light and back door light not working. The mattress was uncomfortable and the bed creaked every time you moved. The water in the kitchen sink was luke warm and didn’t get hot. Had to use the water from the kettle. Give the cottage some more love and I’m sure you’ll be back at 5 stars in no time!
