We had a wonderful week here. Marie was very friendly and welcoming, and the shortbread was a nice touch! The bed was comfortable, and everything was spotless (including the oven ... bravo!). Note that there isn't a freezer, just an icebox in the fridge ... it wasn't an issue, but something to be aware of if you're taking supplies for your stay. The property is down a narrow road, around 5 miles from Newton Stewart, but we rarely met another car. Saw barn owl and badger on numerous occasions; there are also visiting pine martens, but we didn't see them. The property is in the Wood of Cree, an RSPB reserve with some wonderful walks. We didn't really explore Newton Stewart, but there is a Sainsburys there, which was handy. Some highlights were the red deer range (take apples and carrots with you!) and Raiders Road, which was quite picturesque. We had an enjoyable afternoon at Threave Castle and nature reserve, and it's worth driving to the Isle of Whithorn (can highly recommend the Steampacket Inn for food) and the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, where there are colonies of seabirds nesting on the cliffs.
