Guests say

The Clamshell receives glowing praise for its stunning harbour views, peaceful location, and welcoming atmosphere. Guests consistently highlight the cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped nature of the apartment, as well as the friendly and helpful host. The proximity to a popular pub and local amenities adds to the appeal. While the lack of WiFi and limited mobile signal are noted, most guests found this a minor issue compared to the overall experience. The property is highly recommended for a relaxing and enjoyable break in a beautiful setting.

Cleanliness is repeatedly praised, with guests describing the apartment as immaculate, spotless, and well-maintained. Several reviews mention visible efforts regarding Covid-19 cleaning protocols. Only one review mentions leaving early due to weather and closures, not cleanliness.

The location is universally celebrated for its breathtaking harbour views, peaceful setting, and easy access to walks, local attractions, and amenities. The proximity to the pub and community cafe is a frequent highlight. Minor comments about being a drive from larger towns do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Guests consistently describe the apartment as comfortable, cosy, and warm, with particular praise for the beds and overall atmosphere. The property is said to be well-appointed and ideal for relaxation. Only minor mentions of the TV size and lack of WiFi are noted.

The apartment is described as well-equipped, with a good kitchen, ample hot water, and thoughtful extras like books and maps. Some guests mention the lack of WiFi, small TV, and limited phone signal, but these are generally seen as minor drawbacks. Parking is appreciated, though electric car charging is not available to guests.

The host is frequently praised for being friendly, helpful, and welcoming, offering local advice and sometimes small gifts such as a welcome pack or anniversary card. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for all guests.

About this property

This delightfully-presented, first floor apartment is set in a charming fishermen's warehouse conversion, right on the harbours edge in the working fishing village of Isle of Whithorn. All first floor, this coastal cottage apartment gives a modern flavour to a traditional setting. Ideal for a couple looking for a relaxing break, this self-catering apartment has a double bedroom, bathroom and a spacious open plan living space with a dining area, sitting area and a well-equipped, fitted kitchen. Stunning views across the harbour greet you as you relax over breakfast and plan your day. Stroll round the harbour and take in the visitor centre, or have a meal in the Steam Packet Inn just yards from your front door. Explore the coast by land and sea with a sea-angling boat trip or a coastal walk or cycle ride. A lovely coastal apartment offering a relaxing break at any time of the year.

Although it is no longer an island, the village of Isle of Whithorn still retains the name as a link to its historic past. The village lies by the harbour on the southern tip of the Machars Peninsula, and the area has been designated as an outstanding conservation area. The village has a rich history, and trading from the port dates back to Viking times and there are the remains of a 13th Century chapel at the end of the harbour. This region is steeped in ancient and modern history and there are countless sites of historical interest to visit, from Iron Age and Mesolithic Forts to standing stones. This area is a fascinating region and makes a great base for a family holiday.

Good safe parking. Accommodation very well equipped and thoughtfully laid out. Host was very welcoming and gave useful guidance to local walks and facilities such as pubs for eating and shops. My mobile (Giffgaff) did not have signal and there was no internet at the property (but available in pub next door). I have an electric car. Nearest charger is in Whithorn village about 4 miles away, but only a slow charger 10kw. There are 2 electric car chargers in the complex car park but both private and so not available to Clam bookings. Having internet in the flat and car charger access in the car park would have made a great stay absolutely perfect!
