About this property

This charming cottage was built in the 1800s with views over the Nith Estuary Area of Outstanding National Beauty and on to Criffle, the highest summit in the area. The modernised accommodation provides a super holiday cottage for couples and is perfect for a peaceful relax and recharge while exploring the local area . The cottage offers spacious accommodation including stove in the sitting room together with smart tv and Wifi.

The cottage is in the heart of the historic village of Glencaple and close to the historic quay which was a busy port in its time serving near by Dumfries, the capital of South West Scotland. The Quay still remains the hub of the community with a popular Tearoom & shop, village hotel/pub and also a nearby children's play park.

There is a wide variety of local golf courses and fishing destinations (both course and game) close by, as well as the mountain biking trails of Mabie and Dalbeattie Forest for the more adventurous. Whatever your chosen and favourite activity, you can visit a different and unique destination on every day of your holiday. Coastal walks can be enjoyed from the doorstep up and down the Nith on the merse. There are superb opportunities to see a great variety of wildlife including many varied species of migrating birds including Barnacle Geese. The wildfowl and Wetland Trust at Caerlaverock is only a short drive away which offers a wonderful setting for seeing all the wintering waterfowl and there are many arranged events and ranger led walks which allow you to discover more about the merse and its history and development.

Local history and heritage can be discovered and enjoyed with days out to Caerlaverock Castle, Sweetheart Abbey in the village of New Abbey or Drumlanrig Castle near Thornhill. Links to Robert Bruce can be followed in Dumfries, Lochmaben and his cave above the Kirtle Water at Kirkpatrick Fleming. Robert Burns features strongly in the area and his farm at Ellisland just north of Dumfries is open to the public and provides both an interesting museum together with charming riverside walks on the banks of the Nith.
