The lodge was spacious and in a peaceful location, yet only a 5 mi drive to Kilnford Farm Shop which sold a comprehensive range of groceries and had its own food and hot drinks outlet. Wilma was very welcoming and kind.It was a delight to wake up each morning and look across to the hills, with the goats gambling in the field and swifts circling and swooping. There was also a visiting deer and birds of prey to watch.10 mins away was Mabie Forest Farm Park and a separate Forest turn off with walking and biking trails.20 mins further down was the delightful John Paul Jones Cottage and the Lost Gardens of Arbigland which are being saved and lovingly restored and from which you have access to a shoreline.A few minutes south of there is Mersehead RSPB. Half an hour west of the lodge is the delightful artists' town of Kirkcudbright and half an hour North is Drumlangring Castle and grounds with lovely walks.I could go on - there is so much to do in this area!

Very nice,well equipped lodge in an amazing location. Wilma was so lovely and helpful. Although you were in the countryside you were also just a five minute drive to Dumfries. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
