Glenkens Lodge is consistently praised for its warm, comfortable atmosphere and stunning views. Guests appreciate the well-equipped space, cleanliness, and the thoughtful touches provided by the host, Merle. Despite adverse weather at times, the lodge's cosiness and the beauty of the surrounding area make it a delightful retreat for relaxation, reading, and enjoying nature.
Reviews frequently highlight the lodge's cleanliness, with guests describing it as 'spotless' and well-maintained, indicating a high standard of cleanliness.
The lodge's location is celebrated for its peacefulness, seclusion, and beautiful views. Its proximity to local attractions and the dark-sky zone for stargazing are also noted, although some guests mention limited nearby dining options.
Guests find the lodge cosy and comfortable, with a warm welcome and a comfortable bed. The veranda and fireplace add to the overall comfort, making it a snug retreat even in bad weather.
The lodge is well-equipped with kitchen essentials, cooking equipment, and entertainment options like WiFi and TV. However, limited storage space and the need for self-catering due to few local dining options slightly affect the score.
Merle's thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with personal recommendations and homemade cake on arrival. While such gestures are greatly appreciated, it's noted that these personal touches, though likely, are not guaranteed for every stay.

We arrived at Glenkens at about the same time as Storm Amy! Consequently, we had a week of torrential rain and flattening winds with limited opportunities to explore … BUT IT DIDN’T MATTER!! The lodge was so warm and comfortable and well equipped and Merle so welcoming and friendly we were quite happy to batten down the hatches, open a few bottles of wine and read books* when the storms kept us indoors.*visited Wigtown to top up reading material.

Glenkens lodge is a gem of a place. Peaceful and secluded, it is the perfect retreat to recharge and unwind. There is WiFi and a TV, but the view from the veranda beats anything a screen gives by a country mile. And there are miles of country here! Be it watching the sun set behind the hills with a cuppa, or sat by the fire with a glass of wine reading a pile of books (stocked up from a visit to Wigtown’s amazing bookshops), or wrapped up in warm coats gazing up at the mind-blowing stars in this dark-sky zone, Glenkens Lodge is a delight. 11/10, already looking for dates to rebook.
