About this property

Waterside Lodge is a charming single-storey cottage set within striking distance of the River Annan and just a short drive from the bustling town of Annan in Dumfries and Galloway. This superb stone-built home, surrounded by countryside, is perfect for two couples or a small family seeking to explore the majestic landscapes of Dumfries and Galloway, defined by its rocky shoreline, sandy beaches and acres of woodland. The views stretch across the surrounding countryside, with stunning scenery in every direction and excellent walking and cycling opportunities from the doorstep. The interior exudes character and tradition, blending attractive furnishings with quality fixtures to create a memorable retreat you'll want to return to year after year. Entering through the rear porch, where thoughtful pet-friendly touches await, there is a step up into the house before you discover the welcoming living/dining room. Here, a plush seating arrangement is centred around a roaring open fire, inviting you to settle in after a day of adventure. Sink into the sofas, switch on the TV with Sky, and enjoy the warmth of the flames on cooler evenings, while the drop-leaf dining table provides a handy spot for enjoying meals together or planning the days ahead. Beyond this lies the well-appointed kitchen, where lovely countryside views can be admired from the window as you go about your day. Whether you're putting a wash on in the washing machine after a muddy countryside walk, loading the dishwasher following a hearty family meal, or preparing a feast using the electric oven and hob, you'll find everything needed for a stress-free self-catering stay. A fridge/freezer provides plenty of storage for holiday essentials, while a Ninja Air Fryer and slow cooker add extra convenience. As the evening draws to a close, retire to one of the well-presented bedrooms, each dressed with quality linens. The master bedroom is a king-size room accessed via a small step down and enjoys lovely views across the front garden, while the twin bedroom offers a welcoming space for family or friends. Serving the bedrooms is a well-equipped bathroom with a bath and shower over, perfect for enjoying either a leisurely soak or a refreshing rinse. Outside, the enclosed front garden is gravelled and furnished with a table and chairs, providing a delightful place to sit with a morning coffee or evening drink while taking in the far-reaching rural views. Nearby is the village of Dalton, home to a local pub serving excellent Thai and Chinese takeaway food, along with a rum distillery. For a wider range of amenities, venture to the nearby towns of Annan or Lockerbie, where you'll find shops, pubs and everyday essentials. Discover the rich history of the area with a visit to Caerlaverock Castle, sample some heart-warming Scotch whisky, or head to the coast to uncover unspoilt beaches and further walking and cycling routes. Carlisle, Gretna, Moffat, Lockerbie and Ecclefechan are all within easy reach, while Edinburgh and Glasgow can be reached in around an hour by train. With off-road parking for three cars, WiFi, pet-friendly accommodation and breathtaking countryside all around, Waterside Lodge is an outstanding base for exploring this beautiful part of Scotland with your loved ones.

The town of Annan, a former harbour, lies on the banks of the River Annan, in East Dumfries and Galloway, and is steeped in history, with the area once the site of Roman camps and the workplace of the writer Thomas Carlyle. Each year, the town celebrates the Riding of the Marches, in honour of the Royal Charter bestowed by King James V, which involves parades, massed pipe bands and competitions. The area around Annan has many small towns, picture postcard villages and hamlets, plus beautiful unspoilt coastline, with sandy beaches and hidden coves. Visit nearby Caerlaverock Castle, one of Scotland's finest ruined castles or Annandale Distillery. Take a day trip and marvel at the majestic architecture of the grand abbeys of Melrose and Jedburgh or visit the northern Lake District and the historic Hadrian’s Wall. Annan is an ideal base for exploring this lovely area.
