It’s only 4 miles from the bustling harbour town of Oban, which has a chocolate shop, a distillery, two impressive cathedrals and supermarkets. Oban is also known as the Seafood Capital of Scotland – you can sample fresh shellfish right on the quayside and pick up ingredients in its excellent fish shop. For day trips, ferries depart from South Pier (4 miles) for Mull, Colonsay, Tiree, Lismore and Barra, while a water taxi travels from North Pier (3.5 miles) to the nearby island of Kerrera. Enjoy local days by the sea at Ganavan Sands (5.5 miles) or Dunbeg Beach (7.5 miles) and discover local history fans at Dunollie Castle (5 miles) and Dunstaffnage Castle (7 miles).
