Garden Cottage is a stone built, detached Victorian cottage in its own enclosed garden situated on Strachur Park. The cottage is approached by 250 yards of rough farm track that leads from the village of Strachur along an avenue of beeches to the old walled garden, which is no longer in use, and to the fields and woods beyond. The cottage is light and airy and all the rooms look out onto the peaceful parkland.
Strachur is just a short walk away, with a post office/shop, petrol station and two local pubs; Dunoon is a half hour drive and has all main amenities, and there are several good restaurants close by and in nearby Inveraray.
Dating from 1789, and still owned by the original family, Strachur Park comprises lush pasture with avenues and woodlands of mature trees - mostly limes, beeches and Scots firs. Take a stroll on one of the woodland walks with rhododendrons and rare shrubs, as well as nature trails offering an abundance of wild flowers and wildlife. There is also a small river running through the park and a secluded lochan, perfect for a picnic. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Lovely spacious cottage in idyllic location

The cottage could be a wonderful place - it sits in a secluded corner, very quiet with wonderful old trees around. But it’s tired - the furniture is worn and in places broken (missing handles on dressers, peeling veneer from tables). The doors are drafty and all kinds of garden life comes in - in a week we scooped out tens of millipedes and two snails. Also, it was not clean. When we came in we could still smell the previous tenants’ dog and we had to wash all pans before cooking due to oil and mould. The duvets did not fit the beds or the covers and there were hair elastics on the floor, also not ours.It feels like a missed opportunity for a lovely place.

This is a beautiful cottage in a lovely area. However it needs some attention which we raised while there. The owner was very understanding and sent an estate worker to look at the problems. They were very happy that we had raised the issues and I am sure they will be rectified.
